MAINTENANCE MANUAL

WARNING:_______ AILERON, SPOILER, TE FLAP, RUDDER AND ELEVATOR CONTROL
SURFACES, AND THE LANDING GEAR ARE FULLY POWERED.  PRIOR
TO PROVIDING HYDRAULIC POWER, CHECK TO ENSURE THAT
PERSONNEL AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF SURFACES.  ISOLATE
ANY SYSTEM NOT INTENDED FOR OPERATION TO PREVENT INJURY TO

 PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (b)
Operation of an outboard aileron is prohibited by a lockout mechanism when the group A LE flaps are fully retracted and either the airspeed is above 238 knots or the mach number is above 0.53M. To operate on outboard aileron, the group A LE flaps must be partially extended or the airspeed is below 232 knots and mach number is below 0.51M.

Inboard Aileron Operation

 (a)
Provide hydraulic power.

 (b)
Rotate either aileron control wheel in CW or CCW direction to

 move ailerons.Outboard Aileron Operation

 (a)
Provide hydraulic power.

 (b)
Extend group A LE flaps to 5-unit position.

 (c)
Rotate either aileron control wheel in CW or CCW direction to move ailerons.

 (d)
The control surfaces position indicator on pilots' instrument panel will indicate positions of outboard ailerons in angular degrees UP and DOWN.

Aileron Trim Actuator Operation

 (a)
Provide electrical power.

 (b)
Place aileron trim control switches in LEFT WING DOWN or RIGHT WING DOWN positions to adjust trim. Trim operation will be evidenced by corresponding movement of control wheels.

AILERON AND AILERON TRIM CONTROL SYSTEM - ADJUSTMENT/TEST
_________________________________________________________
 1.  General_______
 A.  This procedure contains six tasks. The tasks are as follows:
 (1)
The aileron lockout system existing fault check which uses the stabilizer trim/rudder ratio modules

 (2)
The aileron override protection system operational check

 (3)
The operational test of the aileron and aileron trim control system

 (4)
The adjustment of the aileron and aileron trim control system

 (5)
The system test of the aileron and aileron trim control system

 (6)
The rigging instructions of the aileron and aileron trim control system.

 B.
Refer to 27-18-00/501 for the adjustment and test of the aileron position indicating system.

 C.
You must correctly adjust the aileron trim control system before you can adjust or do a test on the aileron control system.

 D.
A tolerance of | 0.5 unit of aileron (measured from the control wheel neutral position) is satisfactory without the adjustment of the aileron and aileron trim control system.

 E.
A trim tolerance of +/-0.5 unit of aileron and/or +/-2.0 units of rudder is allowed to keep a straight and level flight at cruise with the flaps up. If the trim is out of tolerance, these adjustments are necessary:

 (1)
The aileron system adjustment (AMM 27-11-00/501) with the trim position indication (AMM 27-18-00/501). Carefully examine the surface position.

 (2)
The rudder system adjustment (AMM 27-21-00/501) and the trim position indication (AMM 27-28-00/501). Carefully examine the rudder surface position in the high airspeed position.

 TASK 27-11-00-745-001
 2.  Aileron Lockout System Existing Faults Check________________________________________________
 A.  General
 (1)  This task is a check to make sure there are no failures with the left or right stabilizer trim/rudder ratio module (SRM) on the CMCS. Use one of the two procedures that follow to do a check for existing faults in the aileron lockout system.
