The calculation for the stabilizer jackscrew freeplay Z uses multipliers that are
calculated using pounds and inches, not kilograms and millimeters. Using
metric equivalents in the equation that determines the freeplay value, Z, will
cause the calculated freeplay values to be in error.
Z = (D3 multiplied by 1.25) - (W multiplied by 0.0000318)
a) If the "Z" value is negative, then the "Z" value is equal to zero.

(3) Calculate the total freeplay of the horizontal stabilizer (which is referred to as "H"):
(a) Use the values X, Y, and Z to calculate H:
H = Z + [(X + Y)/2]

(4) Do a check of the X, Y, Z, and H values:
(a) If the "X" value is more than 0.060 inch, then replace the left hinge bearing.
(b) If the "Y" value is more than 0.060 inch, then replace the right hinge bearing.
(c) If the "Z" value is more than 0.050 inch, then repair the stabilizer jackscrew
(TASK 27-41-81-000-801).
(d) If the "H" value is more than 0.051 inch, replace the bearings of the stabilizer center section
hinges.
1) If it is necessary, disassemble and adjust the stabilizer jackscrew
(TASK 27-41-81-000-801).
H. Put the Airplane Back to Its Usual Condition

(1) Remove the dial indicator, STD-1238.

WARNING: MAKE SURE PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE TRAILING EDGE FLAPS
AND THE LEADING EDGE FLAPS AND SLATS. THE FLAPS AND SLATS WILL EXTEND.
THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(1) Extend the trailing edge flaps to the FLAP DOWN position with primary control. To extend the
trailing edge flaps, do this task: Extend the Trailing Edge Flaps, TASK 27-51-00-860-803.
NOTE: You can do a check of the spoilers with hydraulic power on or off.
