(5) Change the length of the bellcranks [34] on the inboard and outboard carriages (Figure 504):
NOTE: The change in the length of the bellcranks [34] must be the same for the inboard
carriage and the outboard carriage on a flap in the limit of 0.05 inch (1.27 mm). It is
important to adjust the aft pushrods [53] after you adjust the length of the bellcranks
[34].
(a) Turn the applicable nut [32] on the bellcrank [34] to change the position of the adjustment
fitting [31].
NOTE: To increase the length of the bellcrank [34], loosen the lower nut [32] the distance
shown in the graph. To decrease the length of the bellcrank [34], loosen the upper
nut [32] the distance shown. One full turn of a nut [32] will change the length of the
bellcrank [34] by 0.05 inch (1.27 mm). You can use the distance from the top of the
bellcrank [34] to the bottom flange of the adjustment fitting [31] as a reference
dimension.
(b) Move the adjustment fitting [31] in the bellcrank [34].
(c) Engage the locking washer [33] with the bellcrank [34].

(d) Tighten the other nut [32] to hold the adjustment fitting [31].
(e) Install lockwire on the nuts [32].

(6) Adjust the aft pushrods [53] for the aft flap [51] (Figure 505):
(a) Do this task: Trailing Edge Flap System Reactivation, TASK 27-51-00-440-801.
(b) Retract the trailing edge flaps to the retracted position. To retract them, do this task:
Retract the Trailing Edge Flaps, TASK 27-51-00-860-804.
(c) Measure the mismatch between the aft flap [51] and the main flap at the inboard and
outboard ends of the aft flap [51].
(d) If the mismatch at the inboard and outboard ends of the aft flap [51] is not in the limit of 0.00
±0.030 inches (1.524 mm), then adjust the length of the applicable aft pushrod [53]:
NOTE: The tolerance on the mismatch is smaller than the normal adjustment tolerance.
This increases the effect of the lateral trim adjustment.
1) Loosen the nuts [52] on the aft pushrod [53].
2) Turn the applicable aft pushrod [53] until the mismatch is in the limit at the inboard and
outboard ends of the aft flap [51].
NOTE: For each 1/4 turn of the aft pushrod [53], the trailing edge of the aft flap [51] will
move approximately 0.04 inch (1.02 mm).
3) Tighten the nuts [52] on the aft pushrod [53].
4) Install lockwire on the nuts [52].

(7) Put the airplane back to its usual condition:
(a) Do this task: Trailing Edge Flap System Reactivation, TASK 27-51-00-440-801.
(b) Retract the trailing edge flaps to the retracted position. To retract the flaps, do this task:
Retract the Trailing Edge Flaps, TASK 27-51-00-860-804.
J. Lateral Trim Correction for Multiple Flight Conditions
NOTE: Use these steps if the aileron trim necessary to keep level flight is not in the limit for the
cruise condition, and with the flaps extended. This adjustment is appropriate if all of the trim
values are either left or right. This procedure changes the adjustment of the carriage roller
cartridges on the inboard flap.
SUBTASK 27-09-71-970-009
(1) Find the total height change of the inboard flap necessary to correct the lateral trim error
(Figure 506):
(a) Use Graph A to find the total trailing edge height change necessary to correct the lateral
trim error for the cruise condition.
(b) Use Graph B to make sure the height change from the previous step is appropriate to
correct the lateral trim for the different airplane configurations.
NOTE: If it is appropriate, you can select a different height change.

(2) Find the change to the position of the carriage roller cartridges necessary to correct the lateral
trim error (Figure 506):
NOTE: The change to the carriage roller cartridges will change the height of the trailing edge
of the inboard flap.
