SUBTASK 27-00-00-390-001
(5) Apply a seal to the drain hole in each pitot probe on the vertical fin. Use vinyl adhesive Scotch
Brand No.471 tape, G02219 and black polyethylene sheet film, G00252, to cover and seal the
drain holes.
SUBTASK 27-00-00-950-001
CAUTION: WHENEVER AN OPENING IS COVERED, MAKE SURE THAT CONDITION IS VISIBLE
FROM THE GROUND. ENGINES SHOULD NOT BE OPERATED WITH COVERS IN
PLACE. THE COVERS CAN COME OFF AND CAUSE DAMAGE THE ENGINES.
(6) Attach a "PITOT PROBES COVERED" tag, G02447 that has "PITOT PROBES COVERED" printed
on it in black letters, to the top of the left control wheel in the flight deck with wire.
WARNING: WHEN THE DRAIN HOLES ARE COVERED, MAKE SURE THAT CONDITION IS
VISIBLE FROM THE GROUND. IN ADDITION, ATTACH A TAG TO THE LEFT
CONTROL WHEEL IN THE FLIGHT DECK AS A REMINDER THAT THE STATIC
PORTS ARE COVERED. FAILURE TO OBSERVE AND REMOVE COVERINGS OVER
STATIC PORTS BEFORE FLIGHT CAN CAUSE LARGE ERRORS IN AIRSPEEDSENSING
AND ALTITUDE-SENSING SIGNALS. THIS CAN LEAD TO LOSS OF SAFE
FLIGHT.
(a) Put one end of a 4-foot or longer piece of the orange barricade barricade tape, G02443,
over the black polyethylene sheet covering the drain holes of the pitot probes and secure
the upper edge with a 5-inch strip of the adhesive Scotch Brand No.471 tape, G02219.
NOTE: Smooth the 3M No. 471 yellow vinyl adhesive tape on the airplane surface to
make sure the bond is satisfactory.
(b) To make sure it is visible from the ground, the orange barricade barricade tape, G02443
should be allowed to stream down through this access door:
Number Name/Location
311BL Stabilizer Trim Access Door
SUBTASK 27-00-00-020-002
(7) Remove the drain plugs from the systems A and B pitot lines.
NOTE: The systems A and B pitot lines are below the elevator feel computer.
SUBTASK 27-00-00-480-001
(8) Install the regulator, SPL-1742:
(a) Connect the pressure gage lines from the regulator, SPL-1742 to the drain holes of the pitot
lines.

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE PITOT PROBE HAS NO ADDITIONAL WEIGHT ON IT FROM
THE TEST HOSE. THE PROBE CAN BEND OR TWIST OUT OF TOLERANCE.
(b) Connect the pressure lines from the regulator, SPL-1742 to the pitot probes on the vertical
fin.
SUBTASK 27-00-00-790-001
(9) Do a check for pressure leakage in the feel pitot system:
CAUTION: DO NOT INCREASE THE PRESSURE TO MORE THAN 6 PSI (474 KNOTS KCAS)
DURING THE TEST. IF THE PRESSURE IS MORE THAN 6 PSI, IT CAN CAUSE
DAMAGE TO THE ELEVATOR FEEL COMPUTER.
(a) Operate the regulator, SPL-1742 to pressurize the pitot system to 5.0 +/- 0.1 psi (437 +/- 4
knots).
(b) Set the shutoff valve in the regulator, SPL-1742 to the OFF position.
(c) Make sure the pressure does not decrease more than 0.3 psi (12 knots) during a 2 minute
time.
(d) Operate the regulator, SPL-1742 to decrease the pressure to zero.
SUBTASK 27-00-00-730-001
(10) Do a test of control column force:
(a) Make sure the FLT CONTROL A and B switches on the flight controls panel, P5-3 are in the
ON position.
CAUTION: DO NOT INCREASE THE PRESSURE TO MORE THAN 6 PSI (474 KNOTS KCAS)
DURING THE TEST. IF THE PRESSURE IS MORE THAN 6 PSI, IT CAN CAUSE
DAMAGE TO THE ELEVATOR FEEL COMPUTER.
(b) Operate the regulator, SPL-1742 to pressurize the pitot systems to 2.47 +/- 0.05 psi (315
+/- 3 knots).
(c) Install a piece of the 3M #250 tape, G00270 on the tail cone along the direction of the right
elevator trailing edge travel.
(d) Attach the adapter, SPL-1674 to the captain’s control column.
(e) Move the captain’s control column lightly to put the elevator system in the neutral position.
1) Attach DO-NOT-OPERATE tags on the control columns.
(f) Make a mark of the neutral position of the elevator trailing edge on the 3M #250 tape,
G00270.
1) Use this mark of the neutral position as reference.
(g) Remove the DO-NOT-OPERATE tags from the control columns.
