(b) If the dimension A is out of tolerance, adjust the aileron balance tab [31].

(4) Do these steps to adjust the aileron balance tab [31]:
(a) Move the aileron trailing edge to the down position.
(b) Remove the bolts [45] that attach the forward removable fairing [46] to the aileron.
(c) Remove the bolts [43] that attach the aft removable fairing [44] to the aileron balance
tab [31].
(d) Loosen the jam nuts [47] and jam nuts [49] on the aileron tab control rods [33].
NOTE: You must adjust the two aileron tab control rods [33] the same amount.
(e) Do these steps if coarse adjustment is necessary:
1) Remove the pins [42], nuts [41], washers [40], bushings [39], washers [38] and bolts [37]
to disconnect the aileron tab control rods [33] from the aileron balance tab [31].

2) Turn the rod ends on the tab control rods [33] for adjustment.
NOTE: One-half turn of the rod end changes the position of the tab trailing edge 0.067
inch (1.7 millimeters). One-half turn of the rod end and the barrel [48] together
changes the position of the tab trailing edge 0.080 inch (2.00 millimeters).
a) To raise the trailing edge of the aileron balance tab [31], lengthen the aileron tab
control rods [33].
b) To lower the trailing edge of the aileron balance tab [31], shorten the aileron tab
control rods [33].
3) Connect the aileron tab control rods [33] to the aileron balance tab [31].
a) Install the bushings [39], washers [38], washers [40], bolts [37] and nuts [41].
b) If there is binding between the aileron tab control rods [33] and the bolt [37], adjust
the length of the aileron tab control rods [33].
c) Make sure there is a minimum of 0.0150 inch (0.38 millimeters) gap between the
bushing [39] and the washer [38].
d) Tighten the nuts [41] to 50-80 pound-inches (5.6-9.0 newton-meters).
e) Install the pins [42].
(f) Do these steps if fine adjustment is necessary:
1) Turn the barrels [48] on the aileron tab control rods [33].
NOTE: One turn of the barrel, with the rod end fixed, changes the position of the tab
trailing edge 0.027 inch (0.70 millimeters).
a) To raise the trailing edge of the aileron balance tab [31], lengthen the aileron tab
control rods [33].
b) To lower the trailing edge of the aileron balance tab [31], shorten the aileron tab
control rod [33].
2) Make sure the threads are visible in the inspection holes in the barrel [48].
(g) Tighten the jam nuts [47] to 100-140 pound-inches (11.3-15.8 newton-meters).
(h) Tighten the jam nuts [49] to 80-100 pound-inches (9.0-11.3 newton-meters).
(i) Install the bolts [43] that attach the aft removable fairing [44] to the aileron balance tab [31].
(j) Install the bolts [45] that attach the forward removable fairing [46] to the aileron.

(5) Put the Airplane Back to Its Usual Condition
(a) Remove the protractor, SPL-1682.
(b) Do this task: Put the Aileron Hydraulic Systems A and B Back to the Condition Before
Pressure Removal, TASK 27-11-00-860-802.
SUBTASK 27-11-00-700-001
(6) Do this task: Flight Test to Find and Correct Asymmetrical Flight Control Forces ,
TASK 27-11-00-750-801.
NOTE: For each aileron tab, if both control rods [33] are adjusted, then flight test is necessary.
If only one rod is adjusted, and you can verify that the remaining rod had not been
replaced or adjusted since the last flight test, then flight test is not necessary.

If only one rod is adjusted, and you can not verify that the remaining rod had not been
replaced or adjusted since the last flight test, then flight test is necessary.
