edge flaps:
(a) Make sure the flap control lever is in the FLAP UP detent.
NOTE: If the flap control lever is not in the FLAP UP detent, the flaps and slats might
extend when hydraulic pressure is applied.
(b) Set the FLT CONTROL B switch to STBY RUD.
1) Make sure the STANDBY HYD - LOW PRESSURE light comes on momentarily, and then
goes off.

2) Make sure the STBY RUD ON light on the P5-3 panel is illuminated.

(c) Set the ALTERNATE FLAPS arm switch to ARM.
1) Make sure the leading edge flaps and slats and the trailing edge flaps do not extend.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONNEL AND EQUIPMENT STAY AWAY FROM THE
LEADING EDGE FLAPS AND SLATS, TRAILING EDGE FLAPS, AND DRIVE
MECHANISMS. THE FLAPS, SLATS, AND DRIVE MECHANISMS MOVE QUICKLY.
THIS CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONNEL AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE INBOARD FAN COWL PANEL AND THE INBOARD AND
OUTBOARD THRUST REVERSERS ARE CLOSED AND IN THE STOWED POSITION
OR REMOVED BEFORE YOU EXTEND THE LEADING EDGE FLAPS AND SLATS.
THERE IS NOT SUFFICIENT CLEARANCE FOR THE FLAPS AND SLATS TO
EXTEND IF THE INBOARD FAN COWL PANEL AND THE INBOARD AND
OUTBOARD THRUST REVERSERS ARE IN THE OPEN POSITION. THIS CAN
CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE TRAILING EDGE FLAP ALTERNATE FLAP DRIVE UNIT IS
LIMITED TO 4 MINUTES OPERATION AND 25 MINUTES OFF. FAILURE TO DO THIS
CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE DRIVE UNIT.
(d) Move the ALTERNATE FLAPS control switch to the DOWN position.
1) Make sure the leading edge flaps and slats and the trailing edge flaps extend.
NOTE: It is not necessary to fully extend the trailing edge flaps.
(e) Move the ALTERNATE FLAPS control switch to the UP position.
1) Make sure the trailing edge flaps retract.
NOTE: It is not necessary to fully retract the trailing edge flaps with alternate control.
(f) Move the ALTERNATE FLAPS ARM switch to the OFF position.
(g) Supply hydraulic pressure to system B. To supply hydraulic pressure, do this task:
Hydraulic System A or B Pressurization, TASK 29-11-00-860-801.
1) Make sure the trailing edge flaps fully retract.
2) Make sure the leading edge flaps and slats fully retract.
(h) Move the FLT CONTROL B switch to the OFF position.
(i) Move the ALTERNATE FLAPS ARM switch to the ARM position.

1) Make sure the STANDBY HYD - LOW PRESSURE light is off.
(j) Move the ALTERNATE FLAPS ARM switch to the OFF position.
(k) Move the FLT CONTROL B switch to the ON position.
D. Put the Airplane Back to Its Usual Condition

(1) Do this task: Remove Electrical Power, TASK 24-22-00-860-812.
SUBTASK 27-09-45-860-007
(2) If it is necessary, remove hydraulic power. To remove hydraulic power from systems A and B,
do this task: Hydraulic System A or B Power Removal, TASK 29-11-00-860-805.

COMPENSATOR CARTRIDGE - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. General
A. This procedure has these tasks:
(1) A removal of the compensator cartridge
(2) An installation of the compensator cartridge.
GUN 001-010, 155-157, 201-999
B. The compensator cartridge is part of the flight controls hydraulic module. The flight controls
hydraulic module for hydraulic system A is found in the left main wheel well. The flight controls
hydraulic module for hydraulic system B is found in the right main wheel well.
NOTE: Do not install 10-60560-3 Compensator on Flight Control Module if the Compensator has
serial number 20478A to 20717A (Ref: AD 2002-19-51, Rev.1).
