L. Lateral Trim Correction with a Formed in Place Gasket (FIPG)
GUN 001-099, 101-122, 156, 157, 201-999
NOTE: Use these steps if the aileron trim necessary to keep level flight is not in the limit for the
flaps extended to 40-units condition, or the change in the trim between the 15-unit and 40-
unit conditions is not in the limit and the other adjustments have not been effective. This
installs, or removes a Formed in Place Gasket (FIPG) on the torque tube door adjacent to
the wing to body panels. The FIPG stops airflow from the wheel well to the upper flap
surface.
SUBTASK 27-09-71-970-011
(1) Find the appropriate location to add or remove a Formed in Place Gasket (FIPG):
NOTE: The FIPG only has an affect on the lateral trim when it is installed on one side only.
(a) Determine whether the aircraft already has a FIPG installed on neither, one or both sides:
NOTE: The FIPG is a seal made of sealant, A00247 between the torque tube door [94],
and the fixed upper panel [103].
GUN 201-203
1) The FIPG was initially installed on neither side of the aircraft, one may have been
subsequently installed.
GUN 001-099, 101-122, 156, 157, 201-999
2) Manually open the torque tube door [94].
3) Look at the torque tube door [94] and the fixed upper panel [103] to determine if a FIPG
is there.
(b) Flight test condition; Right Trim at the 40-unit flap condition:
NOTE: Right aileron trim indicates a left wing heavy condition.
1) There should be an FIPG installed on the left side only.
a) If there are two FIPG’s installed, remove the FIPG from the right side.
b) If there are no FIPG’s installed, install an FIPG on the left side.
(c) Flight test condition; Left Trim at the 40-unit flap condition:
NOTE: Left aileron trim indicates a right wing heavy condition.
1) There should be an FIPG installed on the right side only.
a) If there are two FIPG’s installed, remove the FIPG from the left side.
b) If there are no FIPG’s installed, install an FIPG on the right side.

(2) If the downlock pins are not installed in the nose and main landing gear, do this task: Landing
Gear Downlock Pins Installation, TASK 32-00-01-480-801.
SUBTASK 27-09-71-860-013
(3) Extend the trailing edge flaps to the 30-unit position. To extend them, do this task: Extend the
Trailing Edge Flaps, TASK 27-51-00-860-803.
