Lateral Trim Correction for the Multiple Flight Conditions below.
SUBTASK 27-09-71-800-008
(6) If the aileron trim necessary to maintain level flight is not in the limits shown in (Table 501) for
the flaps extended to 40-units condition, or the change in the trim between the 15-unit and 40-unit
conditions is not in the limit, then make sure the inboard main flap bullnose seals are in the
correct position. Do the steps in the Inboard Flap Bullnose Seal Position Adjustment below.

(7) If the aileron trim necessary to maintain level flight is not in the limits shown in (Table 501) for
the flaps extended to 40-units condition, or the change in the trim between the 15-unit and 40-unit
conditions is not in the limit, and the other adjustments have not been effective, then do the steps
in Lateral Trim Correction with a Formed in Place Gasket (FIPG) below.
(a) The FIPG can affect the lateral trim at the 40-units flap condition by 0.6 to 1.0 units, when it is
installed only on one side of the aircraft.

(8) If the change in the aileron trim necessary to maintain level flight between the 15-unit and 40-unit
conditions is not in the limits shown in (Table 501), or if the flaps extended to 40-units condition
is not in the limits, and the other adjustments have not been effective, then do the steps in
Lateral Trim Correction with Asymmetric Main Flap Seals below.
SUBTASK 27-09-71-800-005
(9) You can combine the adjustments, to adjust the lateral trim for low speed, flaps 1 unit, and flaps
15 unit conditions.
H. Lateral Trim Correction for the Cruise Condition
NOTE: Use these steps if the aileron trim necessary to keep level flight is not in the limits for the
cruise condition. This change will also have some effect on the other flight conditions. This
procedure changes the thickness of the shims on the carriages for the outboard flap.
SUBTASK 27-09-71-970-001
(1) Use the graphs to find the total shim thickness change necessary to correct the lateral trim error
(Figure 501).

(2) Find the thickness and the location of the shims that you will change:
NOTE: The thickness of the shims added on one wing added to the thickness of the shims
removed from the other wing must be equal to the total shim thickness change. If it is
possible, the total shim thickness change should be divided equally between the left
and right wings. If the total shim change is 0.064 inch (1.625 mm) or less, you can
change the shims in only one wing. The maximum permitted thickness of the shims on
a carriage is 0.50 inch (12.7 mm). The minimum permitted thickness of the shims on a
carriage is 0.0 inch. The nominal thickness of the shims on a carriage is 0.25 inch (6.35
mm).
(a) Flight test condition; Right Trim:
NOTE: Right aileron trim indicates a left wing heavy condition.
1) Add approximately 1/2 of the total shim thickness change to the carriages on the right
outboard flap.
2) Remove approximately 1/2 of the total shim thickness change from the carriages on the
left outboard flap.
(b) Flight test condition; Left Trim:
NOTE: Left aileron trim indicates a right wing heavy condition.
1) Add approximately 1/2 of the total shim thickness change to the carriages on the left
outboard flap.
2) Remove approximately 1/2 of the total shim thickness change from the carriages on the
right outboard flap.
SUBTASK 27-09-71-040-001
(3) Prepare to change the thickness of the shims on the carriages for the outboard flaps:
(a) Extend the trailing edge flaps to the 40-unit position. To extend them, do this task: Extend
the Trailing Edge Flaps, TASK 27-51-00-860-803.
(b) Do this task: Trailing Edge Flap System Deactivation, TASK 27-51-00-040-801.
SUBTASK 27-09-71-820-002
(4) Change the thickness of the shims [5] at the aft link fitting on the inboard and outboard carriages
(Figure 502):
NOTE: The change in the thickness of the shims [5] must be the same for the inboard carriage
[11] and the outboard carriage [6] on a flap.
(a) At the outboard carriage [6], change the thickness of the shims [5]:
1) Remove the nuts [4], washers [3] and bolts [2] that attach the aft link fitting [1] to the
outboard carriage [6].
2) Add or remove shims [5] between the aft link fitting [1] and the outboard carriage [6] to
get the correct shim thickness.
3) Apply sealant, A00247 to the mating surfaces of the shims [5].
