(a) Remove the pin [82], nut [83], washer [84], bushing [85], washer [88] and bolt [89] to
disconnect the aileron control rod [81] from the aileron [32].
SUBTASK 27-11-00-860-099
(3) Make sure that the Flap Lever is in the up, retracted position.
D. Do a Test of the Aileron Friction and Motion
SUBTASK 27-11-00-720-001
(1) Do a test of the aileron friction and motion:
NOTE: During this test, the force is positive (+) if you need to push the aileron to get it to a
specified position. The force is negative (-) if you need to hold the aileron to keep it at a
specified position.
GUN 101-122
(a) Move the aileron surface to the rig position and release.
NOTE: The aileron rig position is when the outboard edge of the aileron upper surface is
0.49 ±0.03 inch (12.4 ±0.8 millimeters) below the adjacent fixed lower trailing
edge surface (Figure 506).

(b) Move the aileron surface to the rig position and release.
NOTE: The aileron rig position is when the outboard edge of the aileron upper surface is
0.245 ±0.03 inch (6.2 ±0.8 millimeters) below the adjacent fixed lower trailing
edge surface (Figure 506).

(c) If the aileron moves away from the rig position, do these steps:
1) Hold the aileron at the rig position with a force scale at 8.75 ±0.50 inches (222.3 ±12.7
millimeters) aft of the hinge centerline and perpendicular to the aileron chord plane.
(held negative (-) force)
2) Slowly apply or relax the force as it is necessary until the aileron moves up and down
from the rig position.
a) Measure the force that is necessary to move the aileron up (up positive (+) force).
b) Measure the force that is necessary to move the aileron down (down positive (+)
force).
3) Add the up force with the down force.
NOTE: Add the forces with the same signs. Subtract forces with the opposite signs.
4) Make sure the total of the two values is not more than 5 pounds (22.2 newtons).
(d) If the aileron does not move away from the rig position, do these steps;
1) Slowly apply a force perpendicular to the aileron chord plane 8.75 ±0.5 inches (222.3
±12.7 millimeters) aft of the hinge centerline.
2) Measure the force that is necessary to move the aileron up (up force).
3) Measure the force that is necessary to move the aileron down (down force).
4) Add the up force with the down force.
NOTE: Add the forces with the same signs. Subtract forces with the opposite signs.
5) Make sure the total of the two forces is not more than 5 pounds (22.2 newtons).
(e) Measure the maximum positive force necessary to move the aileron to these specified
positions:
1) Make sure that the aileron moves smoothly throughout its travel, and that there is no
binding at the aileron hinges and seals.
2) Move the aileron from the rig position to the full down position.
3) Move the aileron from the full down position to the full up position.
4) Move the aileron from the full up position to the rig position.
(f) Make sure the force is not more than 13 pounds (58 newtons) for aileron down.
(g) Make sure the force is not more than 3 pounds for (13 newtons) aileron up.
(h) Measure the aileron travel before the aileron touches the wing structure at the upper and
lower limits of travel.
NOTE: Apply only enough force to maintain contact while you measure the aileron travel.

1) Make sure the aileron travels a minimum of 3.67 inches (93.2 millimeters) up before the
aileron touches the structure.
2) Make sure the aileron travels a minimum of 3.15 inches (80.0 millimeters) down before
the aileron touches the structure.
E. Put the Airplane Back to Its Usual Condition
SUBTASK 27-11-00-020-002
