 4)  Install the dummy latch pin in each latch fitting.
 5)  Cut strips of modeling clay approximately 0.22-inch thick, 0.44-inch wide, and 2.5 inches long.
 6)  Put the clay strips around each dummy latch pin (View C-C).
 7)  Apply a thin coat of petroleum jelly to the inner surface of each latch cam.
 8)  Manually turn the door to the closed position but do not turn the latch cams.
 9)  Put modeling clay around each dummy latch pin.
 10) Measure the clearance between the latch cam and bearing
 plate (View C, Fig. 405).
 11) Manually open the door and measure the clay thickness at the horizontal and vertical locations on each dummy latch pin (Section C-C).
NOTE: The difference from a 0.125-inch nominal clay
____ thickness shows the quantity and direction of adjustment of the latch fitting that is necessary.
 12) Adjust the position of each latch fitting, if necessary, as shown by the clay measurement.
NOTE: Because the vertical adjustment of the latch fitting
____ is serrated at 0.036-inch pitch, the closest agreement vertically which could be specified is
0.018 inch. It is recommended that the latch pins be set at 0.018 inch high rather than 0.018 inch low.
 13) Make sure the serrations are correctly engaged. 14) Tighten the latch fitting attachment fasteners (Detail C).

CAUTION:_______DO NOT INSTALL THE PINS IN BACKWARDS. THIS WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FITTINGS, LATCH CAMS, AND ADJACENT STRUCTURE.
MAKE SURE THAT THE PINS PROTRUDE OUT OF THE LATCH PIN FITTINGS MORE THAN 0.75 INCHES ON THE SIDE OF THE FITTING WHERE THEY ENGAGE THE LATCH CAM.
 15) Remove the dummy latch pins and install each airplane latch pin that was removed before as follows: a) Clean the parts with solvent, Series 92
(AMM 20-30-92/201). b) Use a plastic tool, if it is necessary, to remove all the unwanted sealant. c) Apply sealant to the outer diameter of the pin and to
 the inner diameter fitting. d) Install the pin while the sealant is wet. e) AIRPLANES WITHOUT LATCH PIN RETAINING CLIP;
Install the bolt and nut with the pieces coated with
 BMS 5-95 sealant.
 f)  AIRPLANES WITH LATCH PIN RETAINING CLIP; Install the bolt and latch pin retaining clip with the pieces coated with BMS 5-95 sealant.
 g) Apply the sealant to all the mating surfaces of the retaining fastener and fitting. h) Remove the unwanted sealant from the bearing face of the pin.
 16) With the door closed, the hook actuator set in the closed position, and the latch actuator set at the open position, do this check: a) Check the clearance between the latch pins and the
latch cams by inserting a 0.002 minimum feeler gage between latch pin and latch cam around entire periphery of latch pin.
 17) Rotate the latch actuator to the closed position and do this check: a) Check the clearance between the latch pins and the
latch cams by inserting a 0.002 minimum feeler gage between latch pin and latch cam around entire periphery of latch pin.

 (8)
Adjust the midspan latch pin fittings of the door as follows:

 (a)
Manually turn the latch actuator in the rigged closed position per Fig. 407.

 (b)  Move the midspan latch pin fittings to get these clearances
between the latch pins and the latch cams:
 1)  0.005 to 0.045 inches at the inboard side of the pins
 (Section A-A, Fig. 405)
 2)  0.20 to 0.24 inches at the bottom of the pins.
 (c)  Adjust the midspan latch fittings with the latch cams in the
 open position.
 1)  Manually move the latch actuator counterclockwise to the
internal stops contacted position (Fig. 407).
