MAINTENANCE MANUAL

CAUTION: DO NOT USE MORE THAN 25 POUND-INCHES OF TORQUE WHEN YOU
_______ TURN THE HOOK ACTUATOR IN THE RIGGED CLOSED POSITION. IF YOU USE MORE THAN 25 POUND-INCHES OF TORQUE, YOU CAN CAUSE INTERNAL DAMAGE TO THE ACTUATOR.
 (b)  Use a torque wrench with a dial indicator to manually turn the hook actuator to the rigged closed position. 1) Monitor the torque that is applied to the actuator.
NOTE: When the torque increases by 15 pound-inches, the
____ internal stops are against each other.
 2)  Turn the actuator 2 1/2 turns manually in the opposite direction.
NOTE: This is the rigged closed position.
____
 (c)
Adjust the hook pin fittings to the correct flushness
 (Fig. 406).

 (d)
Make sure the serrated plates below the fitting are correctly engaged and tightened in their position.

 (e)
Make sure the end of the hook pin extends above the bearing housing in the limits shown in View B-B, Fig. 405.

 (f)
If it is necessary, replace the damaged bearings, bearing housings, bearing retainer (not on all installations) or other parts, and install the pin again to get the necessary dimension.

NOTE: An incorrect dimension can be caused by a latch pin that
____ is bumped by cargo during loading, which will cause the pin to be driven in the inward direction.

 (7)
Adjust the lower latch pin fittings as follows:

 (a)
Make sure the hook pin fittings are correctly adjusted (Adjust hook pin fittings).

DO THESE STEPS TO FIND THE POINT WHERE THE INTERNAL STOPS ARE AGAINST EACH OTHER:
1.
MEASURE THE NORMAL TORQUE (M) WHILE YOU MANUALLY TURN THE ACTUATOR BETWEEN STOPS. (TORQUE MUST BE CONSTANT WITHIN |2 POUND-INCHES).

2.
FIND THE POINT AT WHICH THE TORQUE INCREASES TO 15 POUND-INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL |2 POUND-INCHES TORQUE (M + 15) WITHIN +5/-0 POUND-INCHES.

3.
TURN THE WRENCH 1/2-TURN IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION FROM (M + 15) POINT. THIS IS WHEN THE INTERNAL STOPS ARE AGAINST EACH OTHER.
