CAUTION: DO NOT USE MORE THAN 25 POUND-INCHES OF TORQUE
_______ WHEN YOU DRIVE THE ACTUATOR TO THE INTERNAL STOPS. YOU CAN DAMAGE ACTUATOR.
 a)  While adjusting the latch fittings, slowly move hook actuator to rigged closed position per Fig. 506.
CAUTION: DO NOT USE MORE THAN 25 POUND-INCHES OF TORQUE
_______ WHEN YOU DRIVE THE ACTUATOR TO THE INTERNAL STOPS. YOU CAN DAMAGE ACTUATOR.
 b)  While adjusting the latch fittings, slowly move latch actuator to rigged closed position per Fig. 506.
 5)  Adjust the latch fittings in forward and aft direction to get the necessary clearance between the latch cam and the fitting (Fig. 503).
 6)  Adjust the latch fittings in the vertical and lateral direction to get the best possible concentric alignment of cam and latch pin (View D-D, Fig. 503) (for minimum rotating friction).
NOTE: The serrated plates and laminated shims are
____
 installed for the adjustment.

 7)  Make sure the serrations are correctly engaged, and then tighten the latch fitting adjustment fasteners (Fig. 503).
 8)  With the door closed, the hook actuator set in the closed position, and the latch actuator set at the open position, do this check: a) Check the clearance between the latch pins and the
latch cams by inserting a 0.002 minimum feeler gage between latch pin and latch cam around entire periphery of latch pin.
 9)  Rotate the latch actuator to the closed position and do this check: a) Check the clearance between the latch pins and the
latch cams by inserting a 0.002 minimum feeler gage between latch pin and latch cam around entire periphery of latch pin.
 (d)  If dummy latch pins are available, adjust the latch fittings: 1) Remove the latch pin (8 locations) from the latch fitting.

MAINTENANCE MANUAL

WARNING:_______ DO NOT GET SOLVENTS IN YOUR MOUTH, OR YOUR EYES, OR
ON YOUR SKIN.  DO NOT BREATHE THE FUMES FROM
 SOLVENTS.  SOLVENTS ARE HAZARDOUS MATERIALS.
SOLVENTS MAY BE FLAMMABLE OR HARMFUL TO THE
ENVIRONMENT.  REFER TO THE PRODUCT MATERIAL SAFETY
DATA SHEET (MSDS) AND LOCAL REQUIREMENTS FOR PROPER

 HANDLING PROCEDURES.
 2)  Clean the inner surface of the latch fitting with solvent, Series 92 (AMM 20-30-92) to remove the used sealant, if it is necessary.
 3)  Install the dummy latch pin in each latch fitting.
 4)  Cut strips of modeling clay approximately 0.22-inch thick, 0.44-inch wide, and 2.5-inches long.
 5)  Put the clay pieces around each dummy latch pin (View C-C, Fig. 503).
 6)  Apply a thin layer of the petroleum jelly to the inner surface of each latch cam.
 7)  Manually turn the door to the closed position, but do not turn the latch cams.
 8)  Measure the clearance between the latch cam and bearing plate (Fig. 503).
NOTE: Write the clearance on a paper.
____
 9)  Manually open the door.
 10) Measure the clay thickness at the horizontal and vertical locations on each dummy latch pin (View C-C, Fig. 503).
NOTE: The difference from a 0.125-inch nominal clay
____ thickness shows the quantity and direction of adjustment of the latch fitting that is necessary.
 11) Adjust each latch fitting if it is necessary from the clay dimension.
NOTE: Because the vertical adjustment of the latch fitting
____ is serrated at 0.036-inch pitch, the closest agreement vertically which could be specified is
0.018 inch. It is recommended that latch pins be set 0.018-inch high, rather than 0.018-inch low.
 12) Make sure the serrations are correctly engaged and then tighten the adjustment fasteners (Fig. 503).
 13) Remove the dummy latch pins.
