If the brake half of a hydraulic brake disconnect is not installed on the brake unit , do these steps:
(a)
Install brake half of hydrauilc brake disconnect (AMM 32-41-17/401).
CAUTION: BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO GET HYDRAULIC BRAKE FLUID ON THE BRAKE
_______ LININGS. THE BRAKE WILL NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY IF THE BRAKE LININGS HAVE HYDRAULIC FLUID ON THEM.
(b) Make sure the brake unit is filled with hydraulic fluid. 1) Fill the brake unit with hydraulic fluid if necessary.

I. Install the Brake Unit (Fig. 402).

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT MOVE OR DAMAGE THE WING GEAR TRUCK
_______ SENSORS OR TARGET BRACKET. IF THE TARGET BRACKET OR SENSORS ARE MOVED, THEN THE AIRPLANE SYSTEMS MAY NOT RECOGNIZE AN IN-AIR CONDITION.
(1) If the sensor or target bracket is moved or damaged, then do the task to measure the wing landing gear truck sensor clearance (AMM 32-61-22/201).

CAUTION: BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE THE PREFORMED PACKING IN THE
_______ BRAKE BUSHING DURING THE BRAKE INSTALLATION. MAKE SURE THAT THE PACKING STAYS IN PLACE.
BE VERY CAREFUL WITH CARBON BRAKES. CARBON BRAKES ARE MORE EASILY DAMAGED THAN STEEL BRAKES. CARBON BRAKE DISCS WITH NICKS AND CRACKS ARE NOT SERVICEABLE AND CAN NOT BE REPAIRED.
DO NOT PUT FORCE ON THE HEAT SHIELDS OF A BRAKE UNIT WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL THE BRAKE UNIT. BENT HEAT SHIELDS FREQUENTLY CANNOT BE REPAIRED. A BRAKE UNIT WITH A BENT HEAT SHIELD WILL CAUSE SCORING OF THE WHEEL INNER SURFACE WHEN THE WHEEL TURNS.
(2)
Install the brake unit (1) on the axle.
(a)
Use a brake change adapter or a brake sling to install the brake unit on the axle.
NOTE: To use the brake change adapter to install a brake
____ unit, you must also have a brake change dolly. To use the brake sling to install a brake unit, you must also have a commercial hoist.

Do these steps to connect the hydraulic line to the brake unit:
(a)
Do the steps that follow:
1) Put the barrel of the disconnect fitting (hose half) over the threaded surface of the brake disconnect fitting (brake half) until the threads are engaged.
2) Turn the barrel clockwise until the locking pin on the brake disconnect (brake half) engages the slot on the barrel of the brake disconnect (hose half).
NOTE: It will be harder to turn the barrel when the
____ barrel touches the upper surface of the locking pin. When you continue to turn the barrel and it goes past the locking pin, spring force will push the barrel down and cause the slot to engage the locking pin.

CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU REPLACE THE CONDUIT FAIRLEAD (8) SHOWN ON FIGURE
_______ 401 WITH A NEW IMPROVED FAIRLEAD IF THE FAIRLEAD IS ACCIDENTALLY BENT. A BENT FAIRLEAD CAN CONTACT THE CONDUIT AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE CONDUIT.
