 Disconnect the brake rod from the torque arm on the brake unit housing (Fig. 402):

 (a)  
Remove the cotter pin (5), nut (4), washer (3) and bolt (2), and lower the brake rod from the torque arm.


 NOTE: Remove the bolt (2) from the torque arm and the
____ brake rod before you position the jack under the landing gear truck. With the jack in position, the clearance between the brake unit and the jack is not sufficient to remove this bolt.

 CAUTION:_______ DO NOT PUT FORCE ON THE HEAT SHIELDS OF A BRAKE UNIT WHEN YOU
 REMOVE OR INSTALL THE WHEEL AND TIRE.  BENT HEAT SHIELDS
 FREQUENTLY CANNOT BE REPAIRED.  A BRAKE UNIT WITH A BENT HEAT
 SHIELD WILL CAUSE SCORING ON THE WHEEL INNER SURFACE WHEN THE
 WHEEL TURNS.

 Remove the tire and wheel assembly (AMM 32-45-01/401).

 Do these steps to remove the hydraulic fluid from the hydraulic brake accumulator:

 (a)  
Look at the pressure indication of the HYD BRAKE PRESS gage on the Captain's Main Instrument Panel, P1.

 (b)  
Slowly push one set of brake pedals to the limit of travel, hold momentarily, and then release. Repeat this cycle 10 times. 1) Make sure the pressure indication of the HYD BRAKE PRESS


 gage decreases during manual brake operation. 2) After 10 cycles of manual brake operation, make sure the HYD BRAKE PRESS gage shows no more decrease in pressure.

 Disconnect the brake temperature sensor at the brake (Fig. 401):

 (a)  
Use the table of wheel locations and connector numbers below to find the connector for the applicable brake temperature sensor.

 Remove bolts (6), washers (10) and nuts (7) from the conduit fairleads, and move the conduit clear of the brake unit.

 CAUTION:_______ MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT MOVE OR DAMAGE THE WING GEAR TRUCK
 SENSORS OR TARGET BRACKET.  IF THE TARGET BRACKET OR SENSORS
 ARE MOVED, THEN THE AIRPLANE SYSTEMS MAY NOT RECOGNIZE AN

 IN-AIR CONDITION.
 (1)  
If the sensor or target bracket is moved or damaged, then do the task to measure the wing landing gear truck sensor clearance (AMM 32-61-22/201).

Make sure the protector assembly for the axle and the thread protector for the axle threads are installed.

 CAUTION: BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO GET HYDRAULIC BRAKE FLUID ON THE BRAKE
_______ LININGS. THE BRAKE WILL NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY IF THE BRAKE LININGS HAVE HYDRAULIC FLUID ON THEM.
 (3)  
Do these steps to disconnect the hydraulic line from the brake unit:
