LANDING GEAR BRAKE UNIT - INSPECTION/CHECK

1. General_______
A. This procedure has instructions to do these tasks:
(1)
Examine the Brakes for Wear
(2)
Examine the Brake Unit
B.
This procedure examines the brake unit for leaks, correct movement of the pressure plate, and worn brake pads. You can do some of the steps with the wheel installed and some with the wheel removed. With the brake removed, you can do a dimension inspection of the brake unit and other brake components.

Prepare for the Inspection

Make sure you install the chocks at all the wheel locations.

Make sure you installed the landing gear ground locks (AMM 09-11-00/201).

WARNING: YOU MUST CAREFULLY DO THE STEPS IN THE TASK BELOW TO INSTALL
_______ THE DOOR LOCKS ON THE LANDING GEAR DOORS. THE DOORS CAN CLOSE QUICKLY IF YOU DO NOT INSTALL THE DOOR LOCKS CORRECTLY. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

(1) Examine the wear indicator pin (Fig. 601, dimension "L").
NOTE: Each brake has two brake wear indicator pins.

(a)
If the two wear pins are missing, you must replace the brake prior to the next flight.
(b)
If one wear pin is missing, the brake can stay in service if the remaining wear pin operation is satisfactory.

If the end of the wear pin aligns with the bracket (L=0), replace the brake (AMM 32-41-15/401).
