NOTE: Probes in engines that do not have PW SB 72-61 and
____ PW SB 79-14 do not have packings that you can replace. If the packing is damaged, it is necessary to replace the magnetic chip detector assembly.
The probes that follow have more than one packing on the probe but only one of them is replaceable: Part Numbers 50R341, 50R342, 50R375, 50R385, and 50R492.

Do these steps to remove the housing packing:
(a)
Remove the full magnetic chip detector assembly. 1) Part numbers 50R347, 50R348, 50R424, 50R484, 50R491 probes:
a) With the probes removed from the housing, remove and discard the packing that is in the housing.
NOTE: It is necessary to mechanically move the housing
____ piston toward the closed position in order to have access to the packing.

(b) Part numbers 50R485 and 50R492 probes:
1) With the probes installed in the housing, remove and discard the packing that is at the end of the housing piston.

(3) Install a new probe packing (19) and a new housing packing (2, 10, or 18) as follows:
(a)
Apply engine oil to the new probe packing and the new housing packing as applicable.
(b)
Install the new packing (19) on the probe.
(c)
If applicable, install a new housing packing in the housing.
NOTE: Magnetic chip detector assemblies with part numbers
____ other than those shown do not have a housing packing.
1) Part numbers 50R347, 50R348, 50R424, 50R484, and 50R491 assemblies: a) With the probes removed from the housing, install the
new housing packing in the groove that is inside the housing.
NOTE: It is necessary to mechanically move the housing
____ piston in order to have access to the packing.
2) Part numbers 50R485 and 50R492 assemblies:
a) With the magnetic probe installed in the housing, install the new housing packing in the groove on the end of the housing piston.
