 (ag) Lift the spare seal (3) up and apply a light layer of hydraulic assembly lubricant.
 (ah) Move the seal (3) into the outer groove of the lower bearing and install the backup rings (7).
 (ai) Put the gland nut, retainer, and the lower bearing on top of each other.
 (aj) Get the record on the measurement as the dimension A
 (Fig. 802).
 (ak) Lift the lower bearing as high as possible.
 (al) Assemble the installation ram with the end up over the inner
 cylinder (13) below the lower bearing (12).
 (am) Hold the handles of the installation ram.
 (an) Use the ram as a ring hammer with the upward movement.
 (ao) Move the bearing up until the bearing top is in its position to
 move into the split guide.
 (ap) Start the pump to lift up the bogie until the wheels are clear of the ground.
 NOTE:____The jacks will gives a 5-inch travel. If it is necessary to have higher travel, release the jack and put a board under the base of the jack. Put the lower bearing sufficiently to start to install the gland nut.
 (aq) While you shake the bogie strongly, hit the lower bearing up into the outer cylinder through the split guide.
 (ar) There will be more resistance while the seal (4) goes into the split guide.
 (as) When the seal (4) fully passes the split guide and go into the outer cylinder, remove the split guide.
 (at) Continue to hit the lower bearing with upward movement until you install the bearing as far as the ram permits.
 WARNING:_______DO NOT LET YOUR SKIN TOUCH THE MATERIAL. CORROSION INHIBITION MATERIAL CONTAINS FLAMMABLE AND POISIONOUS MATERIALS. SPEAK WITH THE MANUFACTURER, FIRE, INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE AND SAFETY ORGANIZATIONS ON THE NECESSARY EQUIPMENT, AND PROCEDURE FOR THIS MATERIAL. FLUSH THE MATERIAL FROM THE SKIN OR FROM THE EYES IMMEDIATELY WITH WATER. PROVIDE MEDICAL AID TO ANY PERSON WITH AN INJURY IMMEDIATELY.
 (au) Apply the corrosion inhibition material to the gland nut threads.

 (5)  
Remove the installation ram.

 (a)  
Move the washer, the scraper ring and the gland nut into the bottom of the outer cylinder.

 (b)  
Turn the gland nut until the threads fully engage.

 (c)  
Release the jacks and lower the bogie until the wheels are on the ground.

 (d)  
Remove the jacks.

 (e)  
If you had used a board below the base of the jack, put a same thickness board below the wheels.

 (f)  
With the wheels on the board, remove the board from below the base of the wheel.

 (g)  
This helps to fully lower the wheels to the ground.


 CAUTION: DO NOT TIGHTEN THE GLAND NUT MORE THAN THE TORQUE LIMIT TO
_______ ALIGN THE SLOTS. TOO MUCH TORQUE DOES NOT MAKE A BETTER SEAL AND CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO PARTS.
 (h)  
Install the gland nut (9) and use the wrench adapter to tighten the gland nut (9) 2100 to 2400 pound-inches.

 (i)  
Align the nearest lock tab slots.

 (j)  
Measure the dimension B (Fig. 802).

 (k)  
Make sure the dimension B is equal to (the dimension A minus


 8.460 inches | 0.030 inches.) 1) If the dimension B is less than the limit, disassemble the shock strut.
 2)  Do a check for the twisted seals or the clearance between the parts.
 (l)  Install the gland nut lockplate (5) after all parts are assembled and tightened correctly.
 NOTE: If tilt sensor was moved to help install gland nut, do
____ Adjust the Truck Tilt Sensor for the Wing Gear procedure (AMM 32-61-22/201).
