Rub all open surfaces of the inner cylinder (13), the lower bearing (12) and the seal carrier (10) with hydraulic fluid.
(c)
Lift up the spare seal (4) and apply a light layer of hydraulic assembly lubricant.
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL NOT TO EXTEND THE SEAL MORE THAN NECESSARY .
_______ IT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO SEAL OR INCREASE THE PROBLEM FOR THE INSTALLATION.
(d)
Move the spare seal (4) on the top surface of the lower bearing.
(e)
Set the backup ring (11) in the gland.
1) Make sure the backup rings (11) touch the inner cylinder surface.
(f)
Open the compression strap.
(g)
Put the strap around the inner cylinder
(h)
Attach the lever in the slot to connect the ends.
(i)
Adjust the strap loosely around the seal with the seal and the strap on the top of the lower bearing.
(j)
Attach the latch on the hook but do not close the lever.
(k)
Assemble the seal guide ring on the inner cylinder (13) with the flange up.
(l)
Tighten the socket screws tightly with the allen wrench.
(m)
Make sure three thumb screws are in its position (Fig. 803).

(n) Move the guide ring down until the edge of the compression strap is against the shoulder of the thumb screws.
CAUTION: FAILURE TO USE THE INSTALLATION TOOL WITH THE MANUFACTURER

INSTRUCTIONS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO SEAL. IT CAN ALSO
DECREASE THE SEAL LIFE.
(o) Close the lever on the compression strap tightly.
(p) This compresses the cross section to the correct dimension for
the installation into the gland.
(q) Remove the three thumb screws and tighten the jamnut.
NOTE:____ Loosen the jamnut and close the handle on the
compression ring. Turn the handle to tighten or loosen
the strap to adjust the compression. Ajust the
compression until you get the fit.
(r) Remove the three thumb screws.
(s)
Assemble the installation ram on the inner cylinder (13) above the lower bearing with the end up.
(t)
Hold the handles of the installation ram.
(u)
Use the ram as a ring hammer to move the seal guide ring down and the seal (4) into the gland. 1) It will be necessary to blow two or more times on the seal
guide ring.
(v)
If the unwanted bounce occurs, examine the bottom edge of the compression strap.
(w)
See if the flange of the seal is not confined. 1) If the flange is not confined, disassemble the seal compression strap.
2) Replace the thumb screws on the seal guide ring and install the seal again.
(x)
Remove the installation ram, the compression ring assembly and the seal guide ring.
(y)
Make sure the higher edge of the seal (4) is smooth with or below the top surface of the lower bearing.
(z)
If the seal flange is not confined, push the seal more into the
gland with moderately finger tight pressure.
(aa) Install the backup rings (11).
(ab) Carefully align the ends 180 degrees apart.
(ac) Assemble the guide sleeve around the inner cylinder above the
lower bearing to the seal guide ring.
(ad) Remove the seal guide ring and the compression strap.
(ae) Remove the installation ram.
(af) Remove the gland nut lockplate and move the follower down
