GROUND COMPRESSED AIR SUPPLY SYSTEM - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
_______________________________________________________________
 1. General_______ (Ref. Fig. 001)
On the ground, this system supplies HP air from an external air supply to a
number of systems (Ref. 36-11-00 and 36-12-00).
The system supplies bleed air to:
 -the refrigerator unit packs,
 -start the engine,
 -
pressurize the hydraulic reservoir,

 -
pressurize the waste water tank,

 -air conditioning trim air valve.

 3. System Description__________________
The external air supplies the air through a HP ground connector of 3 in. dia. This connector is installed on the left side of the belly fairing. The connector contains with a non-return valve a built-in nipple. A duct connects the HP ground connector with the crossfeed duct. The joint of both ducts is on the left side of the crossfeed valve.
 4. Component Description_____________________ (Ref. Fig. 002)
The housing of the HP ground connector and the non-return valve in it are made of stainless steel. A screwthread safeties the non-return valve in the housing. On one end of the housing you can connect the external air supply. The non-return valve has an intake ring, two hinge supports, a hinge pin, two valve flaps and a torsion spring. A smooth surface on the valve flaps closes against an equally smooth surface on the intake ring. Eight bolts attach the HP ground connector unit to the aircraft structure. A mark on the housing shows the flow direction of the open valve. In HP ground connector contour is in accordance with MS 33740 (ISO TC 20) requirements.

 5. Operation_________
On the ground, when no bleed air from the engines and the APU is available, the connected external air source supplies HP bleed air. The HP bleed air pushes the spring-loaded valve flaps of the non-return valve open and flows into the pneumatic systems of the aircraft. When the external air supply stops, a spring closes the valve flaps automatically. Thus no air flows out of the system when the engines or APU take over the air supply.
