(e) If the detent roller does not touch the root of the detent arm and the gap between the detent
roller and the cam plate [83] is out of tolerance, adjust the cam plate [83];
1) Loosen the two nuts [84] that attach the cam plate [83] to the detent arm [78].
2) Move the cam plate [83] forward or aft as it is necessary.
3) Temporarily tighten the two nuts [84].
(f) Make sure the the gap between the slat and the fixed leading edge is 0.0020 -0.0000/
+0.0060 inch (0.05 -0.00/+0.15 millimeters) (Figure 503) (View D-D).
NOTE: Measure the gap at the highest point, within 2.00 inches (50.8 millimeters) on
either side of each auxiliary track centerline. Measure the gap to a depth of
0.4000-0.6000 inch (10.16-15.24 millimeters).
(g) If the gap between the slat and fixed leading edge is not 0.0020 -0.0000/+0.0060 inch (0.05 -
0.00/+0.15 millimeters), adjust the forward support of the auxiliary track;
1) Remove the nut [74] and washer [75] from the clevis [76].
2) Lift the auxiliary track [72] with the clevis [76] through the auxiliary track support.
3) Add or remove the shim [77] to a total thickness of 0.0300-0.2700 inch (0.76-6.86
millimeters).
4) Put the clevis [76] back in its position on the auxiliary track support.
5) Install the washer [75] and nut [74] on the clevis [76].
(h) Remove the preload shim assembly, which is part of the kit, SPL-1739, at the forward
supports for the auxiliary tracks:
1) Remove the nut [74] and washer [75] from the clevis [76].
2) Lift the auxiliary track [72] with the clevis [76] through the auxiliary track support.
3) Remove the preload shim assembly.

4) Put the clevis [76] back in its position on the auxiliary track support.
5) Install the washer [75] and nut [74] on the clevis [76].
(i) Make sure the minimum gap at these locations is 0.2000 inch (5.08 millimeters);
1) The gaps between all adjacent slat ends.
2) The gaps between the outboard end of slats 1 and 8 and the adjacent fixed leading
edge.
3) The gap between the inboard end of slats 4 and 5 and the adjacent fixed leading edge.
(j) Extend the slat until the detent roller is completely clear of the detent arm [78] and cam
plate [83].
(k) On slats 1, 4, 5 and 8, make sure the detent arm preload is 75-85 pounds (334-378 newtons)
and0.100 +0.060 / -0.040 in. (2.540 +1.524 / -1.016 mm)dimension at the lower portion of
the detent arm.
(l) On slats 2, 3, 6 and 7, make sure the detent arm preload is 45-55 pounds (200-245 newtons)
and 0.100 +0.060 / -0.040 in. (2.540 +1.524 / -1.016 mm) dimension at the lower portion of
the detent arm.
1) If it is necessary, turn the preload adjustment bolt [73] clockwise to increase the
preload or counterclockwise to reduce the preload.
2) Install lockwire, G01048 on the preload adjustment bolt [73].
(m) Make sure the gap at the lower portion of the detent arm slot is 0.100 +0.060 / -0.040 in.
(2.540 +1.524 / -1.016 mm).

(4) Do the final adjustment of the leading edge slat in the retract position:
WARNING: MAKE SURE PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE LEADING EDGE
FLAPS AND SLATS AND THE TRAILING EDGE FLAPS. THE FLAPS AND SLATS
CAN MOVE QUICKLY. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO
EQUIPMENT.
(a) Do this task: Leading Edge Flaps and Slats Retraction, TASK 27-81-00-860-804.
(b) Make sure the slat upstops touch the horizontal and vertical stop pads.
(c) If the slat upstops do not touch the horizontal and vertical stop pads, adjust the stop pad:
1) Remove the retainers [85], nuts [86] and bolts [89].
2) Add or remove shim [87] as it is necessary until the slat fairs with the adjacent slat.
NOTE: Add or remove only a minimum amount of shim necessary for the slat upstop
to touch the stop pad. To adjust each stop pad, add or subtract in any
combination of 0.0100, 0.0200, 0.0400,and 0.0630 inch thick solid shims. The
total permitted shim thickness is 0.0000 to 0.1280 inch and must be such that
the slat flex skin keeps solid contact with the fixed leading edge.
3) Install the bolts [89], nuts [86] and retainers [85].
(d) Make sure the the gap between the slat and the fixed leading edge is 0.0020 -0.0000/
+0.0060 inch (0.05 -0.00/+0.15 millimeters).
NOTE: Measure the gap at the highest point, within 2.00 inches (50.8 millimeters) on
either side of each auxiliary track centerline. Measure the gap to a depth of
0.4000-0.6000 inch (10.16-15.24 millimeters).
(e) If the gap between the slat and fixed leading edge is not 0.0020 -0.0000/+0.0060 inch (0.05 -
