LEADING EDGE FLAP AND SLAT CONTROL SYSTEM - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES
1. General
A. This procedure contains these tasks for the leading edge (LE) flap and slat control system:
(1) A task to deactivate the leading edge flaps and slats
(2) A task to reactivate the leading edge flaps and slats
(3) A task to operate the leading edge flaps and slats with primary control
(4) A task to operate the leading edge flaps and slats with alternate control
(5) A task to extend the leading edge flaps and slats
(6) A task to retract the leading edge flaps and slats
(7) A task to install the leading edge flap and slat locks
(8) A task to remove the leading edge flap and slat locks

2. Deactivate the Leading Edge Flaps and Slats
A. General
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE INBOARD FAN DUCT COWL AND THE INBOARD AND OUTBOARD
THRUST REVERSERS ARE CLOSED OR REMOVED BEFORE YOU EXTEND THE
LEADING EDGE FLAPS AND SLATS. THERE IS NOT SUFFICIENT CLEARANCE FOR
THE FLAPS AND SLATS TO EXTEND IF THE INBOARD FAN DUCT COWL AND THE
INBOARD AND OUTBOARD THRUST REVERSERS ARE IN THE OPEN POSITION. THIS
CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(1) Before you do maintenance on the leading edge flaps and slats, you must deactivate the leading
edge control surfaces. This is to prevent injury to persons and damage to equipment because of
accidental operation of the leading edge control surfaces.
