(f) Temporarily tighten the jam nut [82].
NOTE: Do not install lockwire on the jam nut.
(g) Temporarily tighen the upper aft aux track locking bolt [91].

(5) Do a preliminary adjustment of the upstop pad:
(a) Remove the retainers [85], nut [86] and bolt [89].
(b) Add shims [87] under each of the stop pad [88].
NOTE: The total shim thickness will be 0.060 -0.002/+0.005 inch (1.52 -0.05/+0.13
millimeters).
(c) Install the bolts [89], nuts [86] and retainers [85].

(6) Do a preliminary adjustment of the endstop pad:
NOTE: If you do a minimum slat adjustment, preliminary adjustment of the endstop pad is not
necessary.
(a) Remove the retainers [85], nuts [86] and bolts [89].
(b) Add shims [87] under each of the stop pad [88].
NOTE: The total shim thickness will be 0.060 -0.002/+0.005 inch (1.52 -0.05/+0.13
millimeters).
(c) Install the bolts [89], nuts [86] and retainers [85].

(7) Do a preliminary adjustment of the detent arm preload:
NOTE: If you do a minimum slat adjustment, preliminary adjustment of the detent arm preload
is not necessary.
(a) Adjust all preload on the detent arm to zero.
1) Turn the preload adjustment bolt [73] clockwise to increase preload or
counterclockwise to reduce preload.
2) Adjust the preload on all the detent arms [78] to zero pound.

(8) Make sure the bolts [102] on the skin tab [92] are loose on the slat auxiliary arms.
NOTE: This is to prevent damage to the fixed leading edge when the slat is retracted during
the adjustment.
H. Leading Edge Slats Adjustment
NOTE: The following operations may require slat position change to complete the adjustment
requirements and may result in dimensional changes when moving the slats.

(1) Do the initial adjustment of the leading edge slat in the (intermediate) extend position:
NOTE: If you do a minimum slat adjustment, initial adjustment of the slat in the (intermediate)
extend position is not necessary.

WARNING: MAKE SURE PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE LEADING EDGE
FLAPS AND SLATS AND THE TRAILING EDGE FLAPS. THE FLAPS AND SLATS
CAN MOVE QUICKLY. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO
EQUIPMENT.
(a) Extend the leading edge slat to the (intermediate) extend (1-unit detent) position with
hydraulic power. To do this, do this task: Leading Edge Flaps and Slats Extension,
TASK 27-81-00-860-803.
(b) Align the noses of the slats to get a mismatch of 0.0000 to 0.0600 inch (0.00 to 1.52
millimeters) between the adjacent slats.
(c) Adjust the forward support of the auxiliary track [72];
1) Remove the nut [74] and washer [75] from the clevis [76].
2) Lift the auxiliary track [72] with the clevis [76] through the auxiliary track support.
3) Add or remove the shim [77] until the gap between the slat and fixed leading edge is
0.0020 -0.0000/+0.0060 inch (0.05 -0.00/+0.15 millimeters).
NOTE: Measure the gap at the highest point, within 2.00 inches (50.8 millimeters) on
either side of the each auxiliary track centerline. Measure the gap to a depth
of 0.4000-0.6000 inch (10.16-15.24 millimeters).
4) Move the slat, if required, to remove shims [77].
5) Make sure the total shim thickness is 0.0300-0.2700 inch (0.76-6.86 millimeters).
6) Re-align the noses of the slats to get a mismatch of 0.0000 to 0.0600 inch (0.00 to 1.52
millimeters) between the adjacent slats, if/as required.
7) Put the clevis [76] back in its postions on the auxiliary track support.
8) Install the washer [75] and nut [74] on the clevis [76].
