(d) Adjust the cam plate [83].
NOTE: The cam plates are located on the forward end of the detent arm and are used to
align and hold the slats in the (intermediate) extend position.
1) Loosen the two nuts [84] that attach the cam plate [83] to the detent arm [78].
2) Move the cam plate [83] forward or aft, as required, until you get these conditions;
a) Engage the serrations in the required position and torque the nuts [84] on the cam
plate [83] to 65 in-lb (7 Nm) to 100 in-lb (11 Nm) (preferred method) or the bolts [90]
to 90 in-lb (10 Nm) to 110 in-lb (12 Nm) (optional method).
b) The detent roller touch the root of each detent arm [78].
c) Make sure the gap between the detent roller and the aft surface of the cam plate is
0.000 to 0.030 inch (0.00 to 0.76 millimeters).
3) Cycle the slats and make sure the 0.0020 +0.0060 / -0.0000 in. (0.0508 +0.1524 / -
0.0000 mm) gap is kept.
4) Adjust if/as required the alignment of the slat noses and the detent arm cam plates.
(e) Move the slat from the (intermediate) extend position until the detent roller is completely
clear of the detent arm [78] and cam plate [83].

(f) On slats 1, 4, 5 and 8, adjust the detent arm preload to 75-85 pounds (334-378 newtons) and
the 0.1000 +0.0600 / -0.0400 in. (2.5400 +1.5240 / -1.0160 mm) dimension at the lower
portion of the detent arm.
NOTE: The arm preload adjustment bolt is located next to the auxiliary tracks at the far
end of the torsion rod and is used to change the preload tension of the torsion rod
and detent arm. Adjust the preload by rotating the preload adjustment bolt
clockwise for increased preload and counterclockwise for reduced preload.
NOTE: If necessary, remove the nut at the lower auxiliary track attach bolt to see this
gap.
(g) On slats 2, 3, 6 and 7, adjust the detent arm preload to 45-55 pounds (200-245 newtons) and
the 0.1000 +0.0600 / -0.0400 in. (2.5400 +1.5240 / -1.0160 mm) dimension at the lower
portion of the detent arm.
(h) Make sure there is 0.100 in. (2.540 mm) minimum clearance between the torsion rod and
the shoulder bolt, if not, do the steps that follow:
1) Remove the preload from the detent arm.
2) Adjust the bolt assembly with the steps that follow:
a) Re-align the torsion rod by backing off torque on the bolt assembly nut by adjusting
the bolt assembly up or down in the slotted hole in the torsion rod support braket
assembly.
b) Torque the nut.
3) Adjust the detent arm preload.
4) Make sure you get the correct clearance.

(2) Do the initial adjustment of the leading edge slat in the retract position:
NOTE: If you do a minimum slat adjustment, initial adjustment of the slat in the retract position
is not necessary.
(a) Do this task: Leading Edge Flaps and Slats Retraction, TASK 27-81-00-860-804.
(b) Position the ends of the slats using the end stop pad adjustments to get a 0.0000-0.0500 inch
fair between all adjacent slat ends; between the outboard end of slats 1 and 8 and on the
adjacent fixed leading edge; and between the inboard end of slat 4 and 5 and the adjacent
fixed leading edge.
NOTE: The end stops are located near both ends of each slat and can be used to adjust
the trailing edge gap near the slat center, gap and misfair of the flex skin to the
lower fixed leading edge panels, and misfair at the slat ends. Each stop location
has a horizontal and vertical pad. To adjust each stop pad. add or subtract in any
combination of 0.0100, 0.200, 0.0400,and 0.0630 inch thick solid shims. The total
permitted shim thickness is 0.0000 to 0.1280 inch and must be such that the slat
flex skin keeps solid contact with the fixed leading edge.
(c) Make sure the slat upstops touch the horizontal and vertical stop pads.
NOTE: The up stop pads are located 5.3 inches on either side of each actuator and can be
used to adjust the trailing edge gap near the slat center, gap and misfair of the
flex skin to the lower fixed leading edge panels, and misfair at the slat ends. Each
stop location has a horizontal and vertical pad.

(d) If the slat upstops do not touch the horizontal and vertical stop pads, adjust the stop pad:
NOTE: Use these stops to adjust the slat nose to match the adjacent slats.
1) Remove the retainers [85], nuts [86] and bolts [89].
