2. With one computer inoperative, test the operative computer as follows:
 Set parking brake ON in order to enable the EICAS test function.
 Set computer select switch to operative computer. Press TEST switch on maintenance panel, P61, checking for TEST OK message on EICAS(all versions prior to 1001; 1001 EICAS messages are: NO INTERFACE FAULTS, NO INTERNAL FAULTS, and, SELF TEST COMPLETE).
3. Open and collar the circuit breaker for the affected unit (CRT or computer) as follows:
 Inoperative CRT - EICAS UPPER DSPL or EICAS LOWER DSPL (P11 panel)
 Inoperative computer - L (or R) EICAS COMPUTER (P11 panel)
4. Prior to each departure, perform the CARGO FIRE/OVHT TEST by pressing the ENG/APU/CARGO FIRE/OVERHEAT TEST SWITCH.
OPERATIONS (O)
1. For an EICAS computer inoperative, before takeoff, with engines running, compare engine display on EICAS with the Standby Engine Instrument. The EICAS/SEI engine display cross-compare tolerances are as follows:

 Power setting for Takeoff must be made with EICAS.
 If remaining EICAS fails:
 Use SEI to observe engine parameters.

Dispatch with inoperative (nuisance) Status level messages is allowed by the provisions of this MEL item. EICAS nuisance messages are discussed in Boeing Service Letters 31-012 and 31-013 for Pratt & Whitney and Rolls Royce engines, respectively.
An inoperative message is one which is displayed when there is no actual equipment fault. If such an EICAS
message is suspected, dispatch may still be accomplished by verifying that the equipment associated with the inoperative EICAS status message operates normally (proviso a); or, if MEL relief is available, by observing the MEL remarks or exceptions for the associated inoperative equipment (proviso b). The EICAS Cross Reference List (Section 1) can be used to locate the appropriate item for possible MEL relief.
Maintenance (M) procedures are presented herein to verify normal operation of equipment for selected nuisance status messages. The message list that follows is not intended to be all inclusive:
