The removal/installation of the air filter and water separator vary depending on the incorporation of in-line air filters. On turbine drive units not incorporating in-line air filters, the air filter and water separator is a single assembly and the removal/installation can be completed together. On turbine drive units incorporating in-line air filters, the air filter and water separator for the speed control valve actuator are adjacent installations and share common connections. Therefore, the removal/installation may also be completed together. However the air filter and water separator for the shutoff valve actuator are separate installations and the removal/installation may only be completed separately. Below is a list of Turbine Drive Unit part numbers which have incorporated In-Line Air Filters, and those which do not come with In-Line Air Filters. The In-Line Filters are not cleanable, and must be replaced.

Turbine Drive Units delivered with the original Cleanable Air Filter configuration (cleanable and re-usable):
60B00158 -7, -8, -9, -10, -11, -12, -14, -16, and 60B00158-2, -5 after incorporation of Fairchild SB TP85-1-29-09.

Turbine Drive Units delivered with the Non-Cleanable In-Line Air Filter configuration (Non re-usable - must be replaced):
60B00158 -17 and 60B00158-18.
C. Water separators are on the shutoff and the speed control valve of the torque box on each strut. The water separator for the shutoff valve actuator is on the forward side of the valve unit. The water separator for the speed control valve is on the aft side of the valve unit.
D. TURBINE DRIVES WITH IN-LINE AIR FILTERS;
An in-line air filter is installed at the tube connection to the water separator housing for the speed control valve. The in-line air filter for the water separator on the shutoff valve is installed at the tube connection to the solenoid valve assembly.

Open the fairing doors on the trailing edge of the applicable strut (AMM 54-62-00/201).

Release the pressure in the pneumatic system (AMM 36-00-00/201).

Disconnect control air pressure.

Remove mounting bolts and remove air filter and water separator. Discard O-Ring from the inside of the mounting flange.

Remove filter element from filter and discard O-Ring.

Check filter element for holes and dents.
