Procedure

 (1)  
Install the heat exchanger:

 (a)  
Remove the finish from the flange of the heat exchanger fittings (AMM 20-11-14/701).

 (b)  
Remove the finish from the surface around the heat exchanger holes on both sides of the rear spar where the fittings and washers will touch (AMM 20-11-14/701).

 (c)  
Put the heat exchanger in the approximate installed position.

 1)  Make sure the inlet and outlet fittings are adjacent to the holes in the rear spar.

 (d)  
Remove the caps from the heat exchanger fittings.

 (e)  
Lubricate all the new packings, the backup rings, and the component threads with hydraulic fluid.

 (f)  
Install the packings in the grooves in the inlet and outlet fittings.


 CAUTION: DO NOT APPLY THE CONVERSION COATING ON THE FLANGES OF THE
_______ HYDRAULIC HEAT EXCHANGER FITTINGS. IF YOU DO, THE ELECTRICAL RESITANCE MAY BE HIGHER THAN THE BONDING REQUIREMENT.
 (g)  Apply Alodine 600 to the cleaned surfaces around the holes of the rear spar.
 NOTE: Alodine 600 gives a better electrical conductive
____ coating. Not all types of Alodine are electrically conductive and some types of Alodine can cause a powdery coating if used on the fuel tank paint finishes.
 (h)  
Clean the inlet and outlet fittings on the heat exchanger and put them in their positions through the holes in the spar.

 (i)  
Install the fitting washers and nuts. Do not tighten.

 (j)  
Install the mounting bolts, washers, shims, and nuts for the heat exchanger.


 CAUTION: WHEN YOU TIGHTEN THE FITTING NUTS, HOLD THE FITTINGS WITH
_______ A WRENCH AT THE FORWARD SIDE OF THE REAR SPAR. IF YOU DON'T, THE TUBES MAY TWIST AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO PARTS.
 (k)  Tighten the bulkhead nuts on the inlet and outlet fittings to 600-700 pound-inches (65-75 N.m).

 WARNING:_______OPEN FUEL TANK IS AN EXPLOSIVE VAPOR AREA. MAKE SURE YOU USE AN EXPLOSION-SAFE BONDING METER TO CHECK THE ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE.
