747-400 MAINTENANCE MANUALInstall the Manual Defueling Valve S 164-008
(1) Clean the seal surfaces on the front spar and the manual defueling valve (1).
(2) S 424-009Put the new gasket (6) in its position between the manual defueling valve (1) and the front spar.
(3) S 434-027Install the bolts (4) and washers (5) (four locations) that attach the manual defueling valve (1) to the front spar.
(4) S 434-010Put new packings (2) in the coupling (3).
(5) S 434-028Connect the coupling (3) to the manual defueling valve (1).
Do a Check of the Manual Defueling Valve for Leaks

Make sure the handle on the manual defueling valve (1) is in the open position.

Make sure that one main tank contains sufficient fuel to operate the boost pumps.

Supply electrical power (AMM 24-22-00/201).

Put the FUEL CONTROL switches on the aisle stand in the CUTOFF position to close the engine fuel shutoff valves.

Put the fuel crossfeed valve switches in the ON position.

Put the applicable boost pump switches to the ON position to pressurize the fuel-feed manifold.

Examine the manual defueling valve (1) and coupling (3) for leaks.Put the Airplane Back to Its Usual Condition

Put the boost pump switches and fuel crossfeed valve switches in the OFF position.
