REPAIR OF EFCS AND SENSITIVE CABLES - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
_______
1.
General This chapter gives the technical requirements for repairs of the cables identified as EFCS or sensitive cables.
___________
2.
EFCS Cables
A. Definition EFCS: Electrical Flight Control System. EFCS bundles are identified clearly at each end with pink labels E0248 printed in black. EFCS specific equipment and electrical standard items are identified with pink placards.
________________3. Sensitive Cables
A. Definition Each wire is identified with pink sleeves adjacent to the connections. In the WDM, these wires are identified with letter "S".
________________4. Repair Procedure
____
NOTE : The standard procedure is to replace a damaged or broken cable by a new cable with the same P/N.
If you cannot replace the cable, you can do a repair.
____
NOTE : For EFCS and sensitive cables, a repair with splices is not approved as a permanent repair. If you do a repair with splices, you must replace the cable before or at the subsequent C-check.
To repair an EFCS or a sensitive cable:
-
Refer to the chapter related to the type of damaged EFCS or sensitive cable: . Repair of Standard Cables (Ref. 20-53-21) . Repair of Screened Cables (Ref. 20-53-22) . Repair of Coaxial Cables (Ref. 20-53-23) . Repair of Thermocouple Cables (Ref. 20-53-24) . Repair of Feeder Cables (Ref. 20-53-25) . Repair of Fire-Resistant Cables (Ref. 20-53-26)
-
Refer to the repair type and repair procedure related to the damage
location. R

R __________5. Check/Test
R
R - Do an Check/Test of the repaired wiring (Ref 20-52-10 and 20-52-20)
R - Do an integrity test of the system(s) related to the repaired wiring (Ref
R AMM 05-51-43 P.Block 501).

REPAIR OF OPTICAL FIBER CABLES - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
_______
1.
General The optical fiber cables installed on aircraft have the code that follow: ABS0963-003LF. The standard procedure is to replace a damaged or broken optical fiber cable or harness by a new one with the same P/N.
______________________________
2.
Damage Check and Repair Method No repair by modification of the optical fiber cables or of the connecting point is permitted. You must install a new harness with the same reference.

GENERAL REPAIR PROCEDURE - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
_______1. General This chapter gives detailed description and additional information for electrical cable repair.
________________________2. General Repair Procedure
R A. Wrapping
(1) Wrapping with PTFE tape Material No 05-116 (Ref. Fig. 001) This repair procedure is related to these repair types: - 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A and 6A. - 3C and 3E.
(2) Wrapping with glasscloth (Ref. Fig. 002) This repair procedure is related to these repair types: - 3D and 3F. - 3C and 3E.
R B. Heat-Shrink Sleeve Insulating
R R (1) Procedure - Find the sleeve P/N in relation to the gauge and type of the cable. - The length of the sleeve must be sufficient to cover the damage and a minimum overlap of 10 mm (0.3937 in.) on each side of the damage. - Shrink the sleeve at the permitted temperature.
(2) This repair procedure is related to these repair types: - 1B, 2B, 3B, 4B and 5B. - 1D, 4D and 5D. - 3F. - 2C, 2D, 2E and 2F.
