A. Electronic Control Box (ECB)
The ECB 59KD is a microprocessor-based digital control-system. The Central Processing Unit (CPU) processes the program data, kept in a memory. The program gives the control and internal tests of the system. A Random Access Memory (RAM) keeps the:
-Results of temporary calculations (such as fuel schedules and speed rate commands) that change continuously,
-Operational and test status flags,
-Software computational temporary data.
The CPU gives the Built-In Test Equipment (BITE) functions. It transmits
the data through the ARINC 429 Bus of the ECB and the RS232 interface.
The ECB hardware consists of an ARINC 600 5-modular concept unit (5MCU) housing. The housing includes the four Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) that follows:
-Central Processing Unit (CPU) PCB;
-Power Supply PCB;
-Input/Output (analog and digital) PCB
-I/O connect module PCB.
All A/C-side electrical connections are performed through a single ARINC
600 size 2 connector. The ARINC connector is located on the rear panel.
An additional RS232 connector on the front side of the ECB is used only
with a PC-based system. There is no connection via this RS232 connector to the A/C installation.
(1)
Central Processing Unit PCB
The major components of the CPU PCB are as follows:
-Single Motorola MC68332 32-Bit microcontroller,
-1024KB x 8 flash EEPROM,
-256 KB SRAM
-16 KB x 8 EEPROM (image of DMM data, storage of LRU Faults and Shutdowns),
-DMM interface
-Watchdog circuit,
-Overspeed protection circuitry.
(2)
Power Supply PCB The major components of the Power Supply PCB are as follows:
-Power supply circuity,
-LEMP protection for all input/output wires,
-EMI filtering device.
(3)
Input/Output (I/O) PCB
The I/O PCB contains all ECB I/O circuits.
(4)
Connect Module PCB The connect module PCB interconnects all external I/O signals to the related PCB(s). It contains the ARINC 600 connector and the cold junction sensor circuitry (for EGT evaluation).
7. Operation/Control and Indication:_________________________________ (Ref. Fig. 003)
A. APU Operation The ECB supplies full authority digital control for all modes of APU operation. The ECB monitors all APU critical parameters, like
-
APU speed,
-
APU temperatures,
-Ambient temperatures,
-Load compressor bleed flow.
This information is used to calculate and continuously control the APU
operation within its different modes.
The control system also includes logics which automatically adjust the
APU operation to reflect variable ambient conditions (e.g. temperature
and altitude (ambient pressure)).
