 4. Procedure

 (Ref. Fig. 201/TASK 49-72-15-991-002) Subtask 49-72-15-420-051
 A. Installation of the Thermocouple CAUTION : -YOU MUST NOT INCREASE THE TIGHTENING TORQUE MORE THAN THE
_______ MAXIMUM VALUE. -APPLY ALL TIGHTENING TORQUES WITH A TORQUE WRENCH OR A CALIBRATED SCREWDRIVER.
 NOTE : There are two thermocouples. The procedure is the same for each of
____ the thermocouples. The LONG THERMOCOUPLE (TC1) P30 is installed on the RH side (FD) of the APU and the SHORT THERMOCOUPLE (TC2) P31 is installed on the LH side (FD) of the APU.
 (1)
 Install the thermocouple (5) with the bolt (4).

 (2)
 TORQUE the bolt (4) to 40 lbf.in (0.45 m.daN).

 (3)
 Install the clamps (3), the bolts (1) and the nuts (2), at the four indicated positions.

 (4)
 TORQUE the nuts (2) to 40 lbf.in (0.45 m.daN).

 (5)
 Remove the blanking caps from the electrical connectors.

 (6)
 Make sure that the electrical connectors are clean and in the correct condition.

 


 (7)
 Connect the electrical connector P30 or P31 (6) to the mount bracket. Subtask 49-72-15-865-055

 B.
 Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s): 1KD, 2KD

 C. Test
 (1) Do the operational test of the APU (Ref. TASK 49-00-00-710-008).

 A. Close Access
 (1)
 Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tool(s) and other items.

 (2)
 Close the APU access doors 315AL, 316AR (Ref. TASK 52-41-00-410-001).

 (3)
 Remove the access platform(s).

 (4)
 Remove the warning notice(s).

 A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
 (1)
 On the panel 25VU make sure that the APU MASTER SW pushbutton switch is off.

 (2)
 Make sure that there is a warning notice in the cockpit to tell persons not to start the APU.

 (3)
 Make sure that ground fire extinguishing equipment is available.

 (4)
 Make sure that hydraulic systems are depressurized
 (Ref. TASK 29-00-00-864-001).


 (5)
 Make sure that the access platform is in position below the APU compartment.

 (6)
 Make sure that the APU access doors are open (Ref. TASK 52-41-00-010-001).

 (7)
 Make sure that this(these) circuit breaker(s) is(are) open, safetied and tagged 1KD, 2KD.

 


 4. Procedure

 Subtask 49-72-15-210-052
 A. Inspection/Check of the Thermocouple Probe
 (1) Do a visual check of the thermocouple probe and make sure that:
 -there are no dents or cracks,
 -
the thermocouple probe is not bent,

 -
the threads on the electrical connectors are not damaged or worn,

 -
the thermocouple probe is not damaged,


 -there are no holes in the thermocouple probe.
 NOTE : Replace the thermocouple probe if damage is found.

 (2) Do an electrical resistance check of the thermocouple probe and make sure that:
 -
the thermocouple probe has loop resistance,

 -
the loop resistance between the electrical terminals is not more than 1.0 Ohm maximum,

 -
the insulation resistance between the electrical terminals and the case of the thermocouple probe is not less than 10 K Ohms.


 NOTE : Replace the thermocouple probe if the results of the
____
 electrical checks are unsatisfactory.

_______ The Built-In Test Equipment (BITE) of the Electronic Control Box (ECB) 59KD makes an analysis of the performance of the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU). The readout of this analysis is shown on the Multifunction Control and Display Units (MCDUs) 3CA1 (3CA2), through the function of the Centralized Fault Display System (CFDS) (Ref. 31-32-00).
