 A. General
The analysis of the APU is divided into two main groups:

 -
APU life data,

 -
APU fault data.
The BITE memory of the ECB stores this information. Access to the
information is either possible via the ARINC 429 interface and the CFDS
or via the RS232 interface and a non-aircraft terminal unit.

 B. APU Life Data The APU life data are constituted by the following information:
 -
APU serial number (APU S/N),

 -
APU operating hours (HOURS)

 -
APU cycles (CYCLES)

 -highest EGT/time above trim limits.
These informations are available on the APU - DATA/OIL menu of the MCDU
except the EGT/time above trim-limits information, which is only
accessible via the RS232 interface and a non-aircraft terminal unit.

 (1)
APU S/N The APU S/N is hardwired in the encoder 116KD which is attached to the APU.

 (2)
HOURS HOURS is the operating time in hours, with the APU speed higher than 95% (APU available).

 (3)
CYCLES CYCLES is the number of operating cycles, start - operation -shutdown. The ECB counts a cycle everytime the APU speed goes through 95%.

 (4)
EGT/Time above trim limits The highest EGT peak is stored with the date, GMT and the flight phase as well as the amount of time the ECB operates above ECS-trim, MES-trim and overtemperature limit (T5max).

ALL life data information is matched to the APU S/N. The APU S/N is read by the ECB as part of the power-up initialization. The ECB has two areas in its memory to record the HOURS-,CYCLES- and APU S/N data:
 -
the 'current' memory area,

 -
the 'past' memory area. When the ECB is powered-up the ECB evaluates the APU S/N from the encoder and compares the evaluated S/N with the S/N stored in the 'current' memory area. If both S/N are identical the HOURS- and CYCLES data set, stored in this memory area, is used and will be incremented with the new values. If both S/N are different, the ECB compares the evaluated S/N with the S/N stored in the 'past' memory area with one of two actions possible:

 -
if the numbers are identical, the 'past' memory area becomes the new 'current' memory area. The HOURS- and CYCLES data set stored in the new 'current' memory area are updated with the new values.

 -
if the numbers are different, the 'past' memory area is set to zero and the new values are stored in the cleared 'past' memory area.

 C. APU Fault Data The BITE of the ECB is able:
 -
to detect if the ECB itself and of selected APU-Line Replacable Units (LRU) have a failure,

 -
to command alternate action or to substitude values for faulty sensors. The ECB 59KD with the use of this information (related to aircraft and ECB configuration) starts an APU automatic shutdown, if necessary to protect the APU.

The BITE fault memory (nonvolatile) of the ECB keeps the LRU failure and shutdown fault information. The CFDS function of the MCDU gives access to this fault data. It commands the ECB for the fault data on label 227 and the ECB supplies the fault data as words with label 356.

 A. APU Usage Data The ECB stores APU usage static data. This data is valid for the time the APU and the ECB are installed together. The database of the ECB stores 58 different parameters, such as:
 -
APU serial and model number,

 -
APU operating hours and starts,

 -
APU accumulated HOT time,

 -
APU accumulated shutdowns.

etc. The data is updated in the ECB when the APU enters the cooldown mode. Access to this data is through the 'SERVICE DATA' page of the APU menu.
 B. APU Fault Data
The Built-In Test Equipment (BITE) software of the ECB gives:

 -Fault detection,

 -Equipment protection,
