 D. Compartment Cooling Valve (if installed) The compartment cooling valve supplies the APU compartment with air from the cooling valve during APU operation. The valve is operated with air from the load compressor. It is installed at the top of the APU, above the cooling fan.
 4. Component Description_____________________
 A. Cooling Fan The fan assembly is a one stage axial unit and is installed on the casing of the APU gearbox with a V-clamp for easy removal and installation. The fan assembly is made up of:
 -a housing,
 -two roller bearings,
 -
a fan,

 -
a fan shaft,

 -seal,
-a Permanent Magnet Generator (PMG). The bearings of the fan are lubricated from the gearbox oil system. Two carbon seals are pressurized with air from the compressor to do the oil sealing. A permanent magnet generator (PMG), driven by the fan shaft, is mounted on the rear of the fan. The PMG supplies energy to the ECB when the main supply is defective. The PMG also provides back-up overspeed protection.
 B. Compartment Cooling Valve (if installed) The compartment cooling valve is a pneumatic operated butterfly-valve. The valve has a pneumatic valve, a mechanical lever and a flap.
