3. System Description
__________________
A. Electronic Control Box 59KD The ECB is a full-authority microprocessor-based control-unit. This means that when an APU is started all further control of the APU is fully automatic and provided by the ECB. The subsystems listed below work with the ECB to operate all necessary APU sequence, protective and control logics:
-Speed Control System,
-Fuel Control System,
-Pneumatic System,
-Lubrication System,
-Cooling System,
-Electrical System,
-
APU Diagnostic and Data Retention System,
-
APU Protective System.

CES The ECB provides control from the start initialization, during the acceleration and the governed speed through to the shutdown. The ECB monitors the APU speed, the APU temperatures, the load-compressor air flow, and other critical parameters. All parameters are based on signal inputs from the accessory sensors and the control switches. These data are used to calculate and to continuously control the:
-Fuel flow,
-IGV position,
-Load control valve,
-Surge control valve position. The ECB has an integral BITE (Build-In Test Equipment) which continuously monitors and stores shutdown-fault information along with failures of certain LRUs. The ECB communicates with the aircraft systems through the ARINC 429 busses. The ECB together with the Data Memory Module (DMM) retains the APU data. At the beginning of the APU start, the ECB makes a copy of the recent APU life data, stored in the DMM. This data will be updated, during the APU operation and transferred back to the DMM when the APU is shutdown.

Power Supply
____________ (Ref. Fig. 002) The battery bus 301PP supplies 28VDC to the ECB 59KD through the circuit breaker ECB SPLY 1KD and the relay APU MAIN 4KD. The 28VDC supply for the APU MAIN relay is through the circuit breaker APU CTL 2KD. The ECB continuously monitors its internal voltages and starts an APU shutdown if a voltage failure occurs. This prevents unsafe operation of the APU
