General
_______ The temperature indicating system monitors the APU Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT). Two rakes, each with two thermocouples, transmit a signal to the ECB 59KD. The ECB 59KD gives a EGT signal to the Electronic Instrument System (EIS). The EIS shows on the APU page at the lower ECAM display unit the APU EGT in DEG. C.

System Description
__________________ (Ref. Fig. 001, 002) The temperature indicating system shows the EGT on the lower ECAM display unit. Four EGT thermocouples are installed in the exhaust cone at the turbine discharge. The thermocouples (refered to as the thermocouple rakes) are connected together. Each thermocouple rake is connected to the ECB. The ECB reads the average temperature of the two thermocouple rakes and transmits the EGT signal to the EIS. If a failure of one thermocouple rake occurs, the ECB takes the value of the remaining thermocouple rake and transmits this EGT signal to the EIS. The EIS shows the EGT in DEG. C on the lower ECAM display unit.
4.
Interface
_________ The temperature indicating system has interface with the Control and Monitoring System (Ref. 49-61-00).
5.
Component Description
_____________________
A. EGT Thermocouples The EGT thermocouple is a chrome-alumel device which has two probes of different lengths. The EGT thermocouples produce a voltage in proportion to the EGT. This voltage is supplied through a shielded cable to the ECB 59KD.

6. Operation/Control and Indication________________________________ (Ref. Fig. 002)
A. Operation The thermocouple rakes measure the EGT and supply a voltage to the ECB 59KD. The ECB 59KD monitors the temperature indications in all APU operating conditions (Ref. 49-61-00).
The ECB 59KD starts the automatic shutdown sequence if the two thermocouple rakes are defective during the APU start.
B. Control and Indication The EIS shows on the APU page at the lower ECAM display unit the APU EGT in DEG. C (Ref. 49-00-00).

3. System Description
__________________ Each thermocouple converts the thermal energy of the APU exhaust gas stream into an electrical voltage. This voltage rises in proportion to the Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT).
The ECB receives the signals of both thermocouple rakes and evaluates the average temperature value for further processing and indication. In case of 150 deg.F (65.55 deg.C) (for 10 seconds while APU is on-speed) difference between both signals and an APU speed N > 95% the ECB uses the highest value.
