ENGINE FIRE AND OVERHEAT DETECTOR - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General
_______
A. This procedure contains four tasks. The first task removes the engine fire detector element. The second task installs the engine fire detector element. The third task removes the engine fire detector assembly TS681, TS682, TS683, and TS684. The fourth task installs the fire detector assembly.
B. There are four detector assemblies, TS681, TS682, TS683, and TS684, installed in each engine. The assemblies are the upper forward engine overheat, upper aft, lower aft, and lower forward engine fire detectors. The removal/installation procedure is the same for all detectors.
C. To get access to the detector assemblies, open the thrust reverser.

C. Prepare for the Removal

(1) For removal of the engine fire and overheat detector elements, open the applicable circuit breakers as shown in Fig. 401 and attach DO-NOT-CLOSE tags.

WARNING: YOU MUST OPEN THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU OPEN THE CORE COWL
_______ TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE REVERSER OR THE COWL. MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW THE PROCEDURE IN 78-31-00/201 WHEN YOU OPEN THE THRUST REVERSER. IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW THIS PROCEDURE, INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.

Open the applicable thrust reverser half and core cowl half to get access to the detectors (AMM 78-31-00/201 and AMM 71-11-06/201).

Procedure
S 034-004
(1) Remove the screws (6), washers (8), and nuts (9) on each end of the detector elements to disconnect the T681, T682, T683, or T684 terminal lugs (10).

CAUTION:_______DO NOT TWIST OR BEND THE DETECTORS WHEN YOU REMOVE THEM. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE DETECTORS.

Remove the retaining nuts (4) which hold the detector element (3) at the support tube end bracket (5) at each end of the detector.
(3)
Loosen the stud (13) to open the quick release clamp (1).
(4)
Remove the terminal lugs (10) from the end brackets (5).
