APU FIRE DETECTOR - INSPECTION/CHECK

1. General_______
A. This procedure contains one task - to examine the APU fire detector elements.
B. You will find the detector elements on the left APU access door and near the aft APU mount. If the elements or the support tubing are damaged, the system will not operate correctly.
C. Get access to the APU fire detectors through the access doors below APU.

(1) Open these circuit breakers and attach a DO-NOT-CLOSE tag:
(a) P6 Main Power Distribution Panel 1) 6C5 ALTN PWR LOOP A APU FIRE/BLD DUCT OVHT 2) 6C6 FIRE SW UNLOCK 3) 6H14 APU FIRE/BLD DUCT OVHT LOOP A 4) 6H15 APU FIRE/BLD DUCT OVHT LOOP B

(2) Open the APU access doors:
(a) Open the latches on the APU access doors.

(b)
Open the APU access doors.
(c)
Engage the support rods for the APU access doors.

(3) Do these steps to visually examine the support tubing:
(a)
Make sure that they are attached tightly in their correct position.
(b)
Examine the support tube for dents on the surface.
NOTE: Small dents, as much as 0.06 inch depth, are permitted.

(c)
Make sure that the support tubes do not have cracks, sharp edge nicks (go thorugh the tube wall), or compressed areas.
(d)
If you find a support tube that has a dent or is damaged, replace it.

(4) Do these steps to examine the detector elements:
(a) Examine the detector element for areas damaged by friction or cuts.
NOTE: Light scratches on the element are permitted

(b) If you find damage on the element, replace it.

(5) Do these steps to examine the electrical connectors on the elements:
(a)
Make sure that the pins are not damaged, or bent.
(b)
Make sure that the sockets are not damaged.
(c)
Make sure that the holes for the lockwires are clean.
(d)
Make sure that the surface of the receptacle connector is not damaged.
NOTE: The surface of the receptacle seals the connector.
____ The damage can let foreign material in the connector.
WARNING:_______DO NOT BREATHE THE SOLVENT FUMES OR MIST. DO NOT LET THE SOLVENT TOUCH YOUR EYES OR YOUR SKIN AND CLOTHING. THE SOLVENTS ARE DANGEROUS AND/OR FLAMMABLE. KEEP THE FLAMMABLE MATERIALS AWAY FROM A SOURCE OF FIRE. MAKE SURE THAT YOU USE APPROVED RESPIRATORY EQUIPMENT WHEN IT IS NECESSARY. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD AIR FLOW WHEN YOU USE SOLVENTS. SOLVENT FUMES AND MIST CAN CAUSE INJURIES.
(e) Examine the connectors for the signs of corrosion.
NOTE: The corrosion will show as a thin layer of black

material on the connector.
