THIS MATERIAL IS DANGEROUS.
(1) Clean the contact surfaces of the scuff plates and the fuselage skin with CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-003) and MISCELLANEOUS (Material No. 19-003).

R (2) Make sure that the scuff plates are in the correct position and are R not damaged. If necessary, replace the damaged scuff plates.
(3)
Do an inspection of the component interface and/or the adjacent area.
(4)
Put the vacuum equipment adjacent to the required FWD passenger/crew door.
NOTE : We recommend that you use a strong vacuum pump for attachment
____
of the scuff plates.
4. Procedure

Subtask 53-15-15-420-050
A. Installation of the Scuff Plates (Ref. Fig. 401/TASK 53-15-15-991-001, 402/TASK 53-15-15-991-002)
(1) Drilling of the scuff plates NOTE : This procedure is applicable only when you install new scuff
____
plates.
(a)
Take the new scuff plates:
-
for the left passenger/crew door scuff plate (3), scuff plate
(5) and scuff plate (9).
-
for the right passenger/crew door scuff plate (3), scuff plate
(5) and scuff plate (9).
(b)
Put the scuff plates (3), (5) and (9) in position on the door sill.
(c)
Drill the attachement hole of the scuff plates to the final diameter of 4.8 mm (0.1889 in.).
(d)
Remove and deburr the scuff plates (3), (5) and (9).

(2)
Make the top coat of the scuff plates (3), (5) and (9) rough with scotch brite on an area of:
-15 mm (0.5905 in.) width on the scuff plate periphery,
-20 mm (0.7874 in.) radius around each fastener hole.
(3)
Clean the rough area with CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-003) and MISCELLANEOUS (Material No. 19-003).
R NOTE : The correct application of the release agent makes sure that
____ R the scuff plates are not damaged during the subsequent removal R procedure.
(4)
Apply adhesive tape on the rough area of the scuff plates.
(5)
Apply a thin layer of SPECIAL MATERIALS (Material No. 05-013A) to the remaining inner areas of the scuff plates (3), (5) and (9).
(6)
Remove the adhesive tape from the scuff plates (3), (5) and (9).
(7)
Apply a thin layer of SEALANTS (Material No. 09-005):
-to the mating area of the scuff plates on the fuselage skin and - on the rough area of the scuff plates.
(8)
Put the scuff plates (3), (5) and (9) in position on the fuselage skin.
(9)
Install the cover strip (2), the screws (6), (8) and (1) with SEALANTS (Material No. 09-016), the washers (7) and the nuts (4).
(10)
Tighten the nuts (4) and the screws (1) , (6) and (8).
