 The FQI system has these components:

the fuel probes 21QT1(21QT2), 23QT1(23QT2), 25QT1(25QT2) thru 30QT1(30QT2), 34QT1(34QT2), 35QT thru 37QT, 51QT, 54QT1(54QT2), 56QT1(56QT2), 59QT1(59QT2) thru 61QT1(61QT2).

 The FQIC controls the FQI system. The two OBRMs are attached to the FQIC and contain the software to operate the FQIC. A set of fuel probes is installed in each fuel tank. Each fuel probe has an electrical capacitance value which changes in relation to the change in depth of the fuel in its tank. The FQIC regularly measures the electrical capacitance values of all the fuel probes. It then uses each set of probe capacitance values to find the volume of fuel in a tank. The fuel probe 54QT1(54QT2) includes a temperature sensor at its lower end. The temperature sensor has an electrical resistive element, the value of which is in relation to the temperature of the fuel adjacent to it. The FQIC regularly monitors the temperature sensor and uses its resistance value to calculate the fuel temperature. The fuel temperature for each wing tank is shown on the System Display (SD) FUEL page of the ECAM.
 **ON A/C 001-049, 051-061, 101-105, 201-203, 301-399,
 Shorting plug connectors are installed in the FQI system wiring. The shorting plug connectors connect the FQI wiring harness to the components contained in each wing tank. There are two shorting plug connectors for the FQI components contained in each wing tank.

 Fused adapters and connectors are installed in the FQI system wiring. The fused adapters and connectors isolate the FQI wiring harness and components contained in each fuel tank if there is a fault in the FQI system. This is to make sure that the fuel probes and cadensicon do not get too hot if there is a fault in the electrical supply. There are two fused adapters for the FQI components contained in the center tank. The adapters are installed between the external wiring harness connectors and the connectors on the fuel tank wall. There are two fused plug connectors for the FQI components contained in each wing tank.

R **ON A/C 001-049, 051-099, 101-149, 151-199, 201-299, 401-499,

 The cadensicons 19QT1(19QT2) and 20QT are installed near to the lowest part of the fuel tanks. The FQIC regularly monitors these components and their outputs are used to calculate the fuel density. When the FQIC knows the fuel volume (from the probes) and the fuel density, it can calculate the fuel mass in each tank. The fuel mass is shown at the ECAM on the EWD (Ref. 31-66-00) and the SD FUEL page. During a refuel/defuel operation the fuel mass is also shown on the preselector 5QT and the multi-tank indicator 6QT.
 **ON A/C 301-399,
 The dualcomp 53QT and the ultracomps 50QT, 52QT are installed near to the
 lowest part of the fuel tanks. The FQIC regularly monitors these components
 and their outputs are used to calculate the fuel density and permittivity.
 When the FQIC knows the fuel volume (from the probes) and the fuel density,
 it can calculate the fuel mass in each tank. The fuel mass is shown on the
 EWD (Ref. 31-66-00) and the SD FUEL page.
 During a refuel/defuel operation the fuel mass is also shown on the
 preselector 5QT and the multi-tank indicator 6QT.

 **ON A/C ALL
 The preselector 5QT is installed with the external Refuel/Defuel Control Panel 800VU. During a refuel or defuel operation the preselector shows the PRESELECTED and the ACTUAL fuel quantities. The preselector has a rocker switch that is used to set the PRESELECTED fuel quantity for an automatic refuel operation (Ref. 28-25-00).
 The preselector has an END annunciator light. The END light comes on when the refuel procedure is satisfactorily completed. If a fault occurs during refuel the END light will flash. The multi-tank indicator 6QT is installed with the Refuel/Defuel Control Panel 800VU. During a refuel or defuel operation the indicator shows the quantity of fuel in each fuel tank.
