(a)  START CONTROL CABLES WITH FIXED END FITTINGS; Do these steps to get the correct clearance at the fuel shutoff lever. 1) Make sure there is one or two shims installed between the
 cable support plate and the fuel control box. a) If there are no shims installed, install the shims (AMM 76-11-09/401).
 NOTE: The shims will increase the adjustment range of
____ the cable approximately 0.25 inch (6.35 mm).
 2)  Remove the access panel No. 6301 (left wing) or No. 6401 (right wing) from the upper aft surface of the strut (AMM 12-31-71/201).
 3)  Adjust the upper rodend on the start control cable to get the correct clearance. a) Look through the witness hole to see the depth of the
 thread engagement in the rodend. b) Make sure the threads cover not less than 50 percent of the hole.
 4)  If you cannot adjust the rodend enough to get the correct clearance, do these steps: a) Adjust the jamnuts to change the position of the cable
 casing relative to the cable support bracket on the strut drum control box. b) Make sure that not less than two threads on the casing extend beyond the nuts.
 (b)  START CONTROL CABLES WITH ADJUSTABLE END FITTINGS; Do these steps: 1) Adjust the lower rodend to get the correct clearance.
 a) Look through the witness hole to see the depth of the thread engagement in the rodend. b) Make sure the threads cover more than 50 percent of the hole.
 2)  If you cannot get the correct clearance with the adjustment of the rodend, adjust the jamnuts to change the position of the cable casing relative to the cable support plate. a) Make sure that not less than two threads on the casing
 extend beyond the nuts.
 (c)  
Put lockwire on the checknut and the jamnuts if an adjustment was made.

 (d)  
If no further adjustments are to be accomplished, do the steps that follow.

 (11) Install the aft cover on the fuel control box (View B, Fig. 501).
