Remove the cotter pin and nut at the right end of the start drum shaft (Fig. 405).

 (y)  
Remove the start drum shaft (Fig. 405).


 NOTE: Attach a tag at the location of the spacers as they are
____ removed. You will have to remove all of the start drums from the shaft to remove the start control rods.
 (z)  Remove the bolt and remove the start control rod from the start drum.
 (aa) Cut the lockwire that attaches the cable to the drum. 1) Remove the start drum from the control stand.
 CAUTION:_______BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE THE LEFT CONTROL SHAFT. THE KEY (9, FIG. 404) WILL BE LOOSE AND COULD FALL.
 (ab) Use the dowel (6, Fig. 406) to push the left control shaft out of the control stand. 1) Be careful that the key (9, Fig. 404) does not fall.
 (ac) Move the dowel to the left side until you can lift the start lever assembly from the control stand.
 (ad) Install a dowel from the right side of the control stand to hold the thrust levers and the right start lever if the left start lever is being removed.
 NOTE: Attach a tag at the location of the spacers as they are
