 NOTE: Do not modify the rack tang, the support plate dowels, or the
____ gear fork in the fuel control box. The fuel control box is designed to agree with the airplane model and engine type. Table below is provided as information because of the engine intermix configurations and spare engine interchange between airlines.

 (2)  Do these steps to install the fuel control box (Figs. 402 and 403):
 (a)  Move the power lever on the MEC to 25-40 degrees from the reverse thrust stop.
 CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU ALIGN THE DOWEL PINS WITH THE HOLES.
_______ DO NOT USE THE BOLTS TO PULL THE CONTROL BOX AND MEC TOGETHER; USE MANUAL PRESSURE ONLY. DAMAGE TO MEC AND THE CONTROL BOX CAN OCCUR FROM THE MISALIGNMENT OF THE DOWEL PINS.
 (b)  Align the quadrant gear to align the fork with the power lever.

CFM56 ENGINES

(c)  Put the control box housing in the correct position to align
 the dowel pins and the three bolt holes in the MEC.
 NOTE:____ Dowels on fuel control box support plate for CFM56-3-B1
 and CFM56-3B-2 engines are located at 0.250 inches off
 center while dowels on fuel control box support plate
 for CFM56-3C-1 engines are located at 0.437 inches off
 center.
 (d)  Push the control box on the MEC.
 (e)  Turn the power lever to the 80 degree rig position.
 (f)  Install the rig pin through the R rig pin hole in the control
 box.
 NOTE:____ The bolt holes in the control box, the quadrant gear and
 the fitting on the MEC are now in alignment.
 (g)  Install the three bolts to attach the control box.
 1)  Tighten the bolts to 80-100 in.lb.

 CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT NO WASHERS OR OTHER DEBRIS ARE IN THE
_______ CONTROL BOX HOUSING. WASHERS AND DEBRIS IN THE HOUSING CAN CAUSE THE THRUST LEVERS TO BECOME DIFFICULT TO MOVE.
 (h)  
Use a light to visually examine the inside of the control box housing to make sure that no washers or other debris are in the housing.

 (i)  
Install the inner coverplate to the fuel control box with the two bolts, washers, and nuts.

 (j)  
Use the four bolts and washers to attach the coverplate to the fuel control box. 1) Install lockwire on each pair of bolts.

 (k)  
Install the autothrottle power lever angle (PLA) synchro if it is not installed on the replacement control box (AMM 22-31-11/401).

(l)  Install the PLA synchro wire bundle on the MEC bracket with a clamp. 1) Connect the electrical connector.

 (3)  Connect the push-pull cables for the trhust control as follows:
 NOTE:____There are two thrust control push-pull cables. They are
 the throttle control cable and the fuel shutoff cable.

 (a)  Connect the fuel shutoff cable as follows (Fig. 402):
 1) Remove the two bolts and washers that attach the fuel
 control box cover to the fuel control box.
