MAGNETIC STANDBY COMPASS - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General
_______
A. This procedure contains two tasks. The first task is for the removal of the standby compass. The second task is for the installation of the standby compass.
B. The standby compass is installed forward of the forward overhead panel.

CAUTION: USE ONLY TOOLS THAT ARE NOT MAGNETIC FOR THE REMOVAL AND THE
_______ INSTALLATION OF THE STANDBY COMPASS. MAGNETIC TOOLS CAN CAUSE INSTRUMENT DAMAGE.
(1) Do these steps to remove the standby compass:
(a)
Disconnect the electrical connector from the rear of the standby compass.
(b)
Hold the compass and remove the brass screws.

CAUTION: USE ONLY TOOLS THAT ARE NOT MAGNETIC FOR THE REMOVAL AND THE
_______ INSTALLATION OF THE STANDBY COMPASS. MAGNETIC TOOLS CAN CAUSE INSTRUMENT DAMAGE.
(1) Do these steps to install the standby compass:
(a) Align the standby compass with the holes in the bracket.
CAUTION: DO NOT USE STEEL SCREWS TO ATTACH THE COMPASS TO THE
_______ PANEL. STEEL SCREWS CAN CAUSE COMPASS INDICATIONS THAT ARE IN ERROR.
(b)
Install the brass screws to attach the standby compass to the bracket.
(c)
Connect the electrical connector to the rear of the standby compass.
E. Magnetic Standby Compass Test

(1)
Supply the electrical power (Ref 24-22-00/201).

(2)
Make sure the PANEL LIGHT switch is in the ON position.
(3)
Make sure the standby compass edge lights are on.
(4)
Do the compass swing procedure (Ref 34-24-00/201).

Remove the electrical power if it is not necessary
