 16. Attitude Director Indicator
___________________________
 A.  Each of the captain's and first officer's instrument panels has an attitude director indicator (ADI). The ADI is a multifunction display instrument receiving inputs from and providing displays for several electronic systems. Additional description, operation, and maintenance instructions for the ADI are provided in AMM 34-28-00, Inertial Reference System (IRS).
 B.  Glide slope deviation is presented by the glide slope pointer which moves above and below center. The glide slope pointer and GS flag are biased out of view when operating in VOR mode.

 C.  Localizer deviation is displayed by lateral movement of the rising runway symbol at the bottom of the ADI. The runway symbol moves vertically to indicate low range radio altitude from 200 feet to touchdown (AMM 34-48-00). The RUNWAY flag and symbol are out-of-view when the VOR/ILS navigation system is tuned to a VOR frequency. Tuning to an ILS frequency causes the RUNWAY flag and symbol to come into view. Then, with the loc valid (VOR/LOC super flag) signal present, the RUNWAY flag will be biased out-of-view exposing the runway symbol for displaying localizer deviation.
 17. Horizontal Situation Indicator
______________________________
 A.  Each of the captain's and first officer's instrument panels has a horizontal situation indicator (HSI). The HSI is a multifunction display instrument receiving inputs from and providing displays for several electronic systems installed on the airplane. Additional description, operation, and maintenance instructions for the HSI are provided in AMM 34-28-00, IRS.
 B.  The navigation data source annunciators displays whether the FMCS (AMM 34-62-00) or VOR/ILS No. 1 or No. 2 navigation system is driving the HSI navigation course displays. The annunciations depend upon the positioning of the HSI and VHF NAV transfer switches and relays. The annunciators display "NAV" and "1" for the FMCS mode and "VOR/ILS" and "1" or "2" for the VOR/ILS mode. With power off the HSI, the annunciators display "NAV" and "1".
 C.  The course deviation bar indicates the deviation from the selected course. With the airplane on course, the course deviation bar is aligned with the course arrow and tail. Either the VOR/ILS receiver or the FMCS controls the course deviation bar depending upon the HSI switch position.
 D.  The to-from pointer appears from behind the course mask pointing to the head of the course arrow to indicate the airplane is flying to a VOR station or FMCS waypoint. The pointer appears in the opposite direction pointing to the tail of the course arrow to indicate the airplane is flying from a VOR station or FMCS waypoint. The to-from arrow is out of view behind the course mask when the VOR/ILS navigation system is tuned to an ILS frequency.
 E.  A striped navigation warning flag comes into view from behind the course mask when missing or invalid data is furnished from the VOR/ILS or from the FMCS, depending on which system is selected for navigation.
 F.  A vertical (glide slope) deviation pointer in the HSI indicates the vertical deviations of the airplane from the glide path when approaches are being made. A VERT flag comes into view when glide slope data is missing or unreliable. The pointer and flag are biased out of view during VOR operation.
 18. Radio Digital Distance Magnetic Indicator
_________________________________________
 A.  A radio digital distance magnetic indicator (RDDMI) is installed on each pilot's instrument panel. Each (RDDMI) displays airplane magnetic heading, VOR or ADF bearing, and DME distance.
 B.  Heading from the inertial reference system is used to position the compass card through a servo drive system.
