CAUTION:_______DO NOT USE THE DEGAUSSER NEAR THE MAGNETIC COMPASS. A STRONG MAGNETIC FIELD CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE MAGNETIC COMPASS.
CAUTION: DO NOT TURN ON THE DEGAUSSER WHEN LESS THAN 10 FEET FROM THE
_______ AIRPLANE. A CHANGE IN THE STRONG MAGNETIC FIELD OF THE DEGAUSSER CAN PUT A MAGNETIC FIELD IN THE AIRPLANE STRUCTURE.
(1)
Turn on the degausser not less than 10 feet from the airplane.
S 862-020
(2)
Move the degausser slowly from the side of the airplane to the strut assembly of the nose landing gear.
S 862-021
CAUTION:_______DO NOT TOUCH THE SURFACE OF THE STRUT WITH THE DEGAUSSER. YOU CAN PUT A STRONG MAGNETIC FIELD ON THE STRUT.
(3) When the degausser almost touches the surface of the strut, move it up and down.
NOTE: Use straight, parallel movements.
____
S 862-022
(4) Move slowly around the surface of the strut. Continue to use straight, parallel movements.
NOTE: Include the steering cylinders and the braces that hold
____
them.
S 862-023
(5) Move the degausser back to approximately one inch from the surface of the strut.

NOTE: Include the steering cylinders and the braces that hold
____
them.
S 862-024
CAUTION: DO NOT TURN OFF THE DEGAUSSER WHEN LESS THAN 10 FEET FROM THE
_______ AIRPLANE. A CHANGE IN THE STRONG MAGNETIC FIELD OF THE DEGAUSSER CAN PUT A MAGNETIC FIELD IN THE AIRPLANE STRUCTURE.
(7)
Move the degausser to a position not less than 10 feet from the airplane.
S 862-025
(8)
Turn the degausser off.
S 862-026
(9)
Do a check of the strut with a small compass to find all remaining magnetic fields.
NOTE: Make sure that the compass needle does not turn when you hold
____ it 3 feet from the strut and move it around the area.
S 862-027
(10)
If you find a magnetic field, do the procedure for the removal of the magnetic field again.
S 862-028
(11)
If there is sufficient time, do the check that follows:
(a)
Lift the airplane's nose on jacks (AMM 07-11-21/201).
(b)
Retract the nose landing gear (AMM 32-33-00/501).
(c)
Do a check of the standby compass indication for all errors.
(d)
Lower the nose landing gear (AMM 32-33-00/501).
(e)
If you find an error caused by a remaining magnetic field, do the procedure for the magnetic field removal again.
(f)
Lower the airplane and remove the jacks (AMM 07-11-21/201).
