The cross channel data transfer allows one FCC which has been operating to transfer data to the other when it is powered up. This does not apply for independant F/D operation.


 M. Roll Control Operation
 (1)  Mode Control Panel Logic (Fig. 27)
 (a)  
The MCP provides for mode selection and parameter selection and display. It utilizes both analog and digital means for signal interface.

 (b)  
The MCP uses two central processing units for its prime signal handling. The digital input and output data is received by ARINC 429 receivers and transmitted by ARINC 429 transmitters. The A/P engage paddle, F/D switches and A/T arm switch are standard switches providing voltage or ground outputs when engaged. Listed data words with associated labels provide the digital data control.

 (c)  
The mode select pushbuttons, bank angle limits, change over switch, and F/D ON (gnd) inputs are all contained in MCP discrete word 271. The display change word informs the FCC's of any changes made to the IAS/MACH, vertical speed, or altitude selections. Shaft encoders are used to generate the digital output representing selected heading and course. The IAS/MACH, vertical speed, and altitude displays are controlled by inputs from the master FCC. The discrete word input to the MCP from the FCC's control the illumination of the pushbuttons, self test request, and IAS/MACH indicator mode letter input.

 (d)  
The analog inputs and outputs are associated with engage solenoids, engage switch positions and heading information. The MCP also provides the disengage warning outputs to the FMA and warning horn. The aileron and elevator actuator engage commands come from the CWS or CMD positions of the A or B A/P engage paddle. The course resolver interface with the VHF NAV units is for calculation of the VOR beam deviation. The magnetic reference inputs for the heading and course select knobs come from the IRU via the DAA. The analog outputs of selected HDG go directly to the HSI's via the VOR/ILS-NAV transfer relays.

 (e)  
The MCP digital data bus MCP-3 provides outputs to the FMC and to the autothrottle. This data originates in either FCC A or FCC B. The MCP selects which input to use for its digital output based on the Master Light logic. The only time the FCC B source is used is when only the B Master Light is on.


 N. Pitch Axis Flight Control Operation
 (1)  Elevator Operation (Fig. 28)
 (a)  The elevator provides primary pitch control of the airplane lateral axis. The elevators are operated by elevator power control units (PCU). In event of dual hydraulic failure, a manual reversion allows the elevators to be driven directly through a mechanical control system. Inputs to the elevator PCUs are from the control columns, mach trim, autopilot and the neutral shift mechanism.
