(a) Clean the external surfaces of the spigot ball joint, the retaining plate (3) and the bolts (1) with CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-004) and MISCELLANEOUS (Material No. 19-003).

Do a visual inspection of the spigot ball joint and the spigot.
(3)
Apply BONDING AND ADHESIVE COMPOUNDS (Material No. 08-034) in the housing of the spigot ball joint.

(1)
Get the R/I TOOL - SPIGOT BALL JOINT (98D54403002102).
(2)
Put the spigot ball joint (32) in its housing.
(3)
Install the threaded rods (43) with the nuts (42) below the upper panel.

(4) Install the nuts (41) and tighten them to hold the threaded rods (43) in position.
(5) Install the plate (45) on the threaded rods (43) and the nuts (44).
(6) Tighten the nuts (44) continuously to install the spigot ball joint (32) and to release the half segments (31) and (36).
(7) Remove the nuts (44) and the plate (45).
(8) Remove the nuts (41) and the threaded rods (43).
(9) Apply SEALANTS (Material No. 09-018) on the surface which touches the retaining plate (3) and the inner face of the upper spar.
R R (10) Install the retaining plate (3) on the lower spigot ball-joint fitting.
R R (11) Install the eight bolts (1) with SEALANTS (Material No. 09-025) or SEALANTS (Material No. 09-016) and the nuts (2).
R R NOTE : If you sawed the heads of the two bolts (1) during removal,____ install new bolts (1) with the heads in the down position.
(12) Remove the unwanted sealant with CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-004) and MISCELLANEOUS (Material No. 19-003).

FORWARD FAIRING - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

1. Description___________ (Ref. Fig. 001) The forward fairing is composed by :
-9 ribs
-2 longitudinal zoning walls (bulkhead)
-A visor supported by spring blades
-1 bottom cap
-Skin
-Fan cowl hinge fittings made of titanium.
All elements except the hinge fittings are made of stainless steel.
-
Compartment B1 includes 2 pressure relief doors calibrated at 200 mbars to prevent any overpressure in case of an air duct failure.
-
Compartment A includes also one pressure relief valve to prevent any
overpressure in case of an air duct failure.
-Monel rivets are used for attachment.
-In some limited areas spot welding is also used.
-All the access panels are bolted.
