B. Location
(1) The upper window of the nose gear viewer is located under a cover on the control cabin floor above the nose gear wheel well. The viewer tube extends from the upper window to the lower window in the upper structure of the nose wheel well.
C. Components
(1)
The viewer consists of a cover, two windows, and upper and lower aluminum tubes connected by a rubber hose.
(2)
The upper tube is bolted to the control cabin floor. The lower tube is bolted to the structure above the nose wheel well.
(3)
The upper window of 0.250 inch thick acrylic is mounted between two synthetic rubber gaskets in the upper flanged pan. The lower window of 0.250 inch thick glass is mounted between two slotted phenolic spacers and two synthetic rubber gaskets in the lower flanged pan.
(4)
There are four small holes in the viewer tube for cabin air to enter the tube. Air flows over the lower window reducing fogging and then overboard through slots in the phenolic rings. The slots also provide water drainage from the viewer.
D. Window removal and cleaning
(1) AIRPLANES WITHOUT SB 53-1109; All of the nose gear downlock viewer must be removed and disassembled to remove the upper and lower windows for replacement or cleaning.

MAIN LANDING GEAR DOWNLOCK VIEWER - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES

1. General
_______
A. The viewer window for the downlock for the main landing gear and the two mirrors are installed in an aluminum viewer tube. The viewer tube attaches to the pressure web structure for the wing center section at approximately station 700 at LBL 11.50. In the usual servicing of the viewer you remove, clean, and install the bottom plate, the mirror brackets, and the mirrors. After you remove the bottom plate, you clean the internal surfaces of the viewer tube and the lower surface of the viewer window.

D. Prepare for the Removal of the Downlock Viewer for the Main Landing Gear.

(1)
If you install a replacement window, window seal, or clean the top surface of the viewer window, do this step:
(a) Move the rugs in the passenger cabin aisle from the floor panel to get to the viewer window.
(2)
Remove the viewer cover and the tape hinge.

Remove the floor panel to get access to the pressure web structure for the wing center section where the viewer window is.

NOTE: The above steps are necessary to clean the top surface of

the viewer window.

(4) Apply a protective cover of the cellulose acetate tape to the top surface of the viewer window to prevent damage.
