 (9) Examine the window for concavity (out of contour).
NOTE:____Concavity alone is not a cause to replace the window. The panes can touch.
 (a) Uniform concavity.
 1)  Put a straightedge along the width of the outboard surface of the outer pane.
NOTE: If there is a clearance between the straightedge and
____ the center of the pane, the window is concave. Windows which become fogged regularly, frequently have uniform concavity.
 2)  You can dry a window to get it close to its initial contour.
NOTE: To dry a window, remove it from the airplane and
____ keep it in room temperature air. The time it will take to dry the window will change because of local humidity and how badly the window is deformed.
Windows panes usually do not go fully to their initial contour.

 (10) Replace a window which has a distortion or a thickness that changes (Ref 56-31-00/401).
 (a)  Examine the window for a surface contour that is not smooth or has a distortion.

____
 lamp, can cause a distortion.

 (11) Examine the middle pane for a warped or deformed condition.
CAUTION: DO NOT PRESSURIZE THE AIRPLANE IF THE WARPED CONDITION HAS
_______ AN EFFECT ON THE SEAL. THE FAIL-SAFE PROPERTY OF THE WINDOW IS REMOVED. THE WINDOW CAN BREAK.
 (a)  Window replacement is not necessary if it is warped or deformed, unless there is an effect on the pressure seal.

ENTRY AND GALLEY SERVICE DOOR WINDOWS - APPROVED REPAIRS
________________________________________________________
 1.  General_______
 A.  This procedure contains a task to repair scratches in the entry and galley service door windows.
 B.  The actual depth of a scratch might not be the depth it looks to be. This is because a furrowing action can cause material to accumulate on each side of the crevice. The crevice is normally two to three times as high, from the acrylic surface, as the crevice is deep.
 C.  You can divide scratches into three types. These types are superficial, minor, and major. Superficial scraches can be caused by careless removal of traffic film. They can be made by rubbing a dry piece of chessecloth over the windowpane. Superficial scratches are 0.001 inch or less in depth. Minor scratches do not have a buildup on the sides and are in the
0.001 to 0.004 inch depth range. Major scratches are 0.004 inch or greater in depth and normally have a buildup on both sides of the crevice.
 D.  After you polish a windowpane, it should only be handled when wearing clean cotton gloves. Also, you must be careful to not scratch the window surface with finger rings or other sharp objects.

 2.  Entry or Galley Service Door Window Repair (Fig. 801)__________________________________________
 A.  General
 (1)
The rework limits on the outer panes should be limited to the minimum thicknesses after rework as shown in Fig. 801.

 (2)
When you polish or buff the window with your hand, you should use a circular motion of your hand and cover as large a portion of the window as possible. Start at the center of the pane and move out towards the edges. It is recommended that you use a clean cloth for each step in the procedure. Superficial scratches can be removed by applying polish to a wet clean cloth and then rub the window. For minor scratches, it may be necessary to rub first with a cloth and a fine buffing compound. A satisfactory buffing compound is Learock No. 888. Finish polishing the window with one of the recommended polishes.
