 b)  If the interlayer has cracks or if the unclear condition prevents inspection for the presence of cracks, replace the window before further flight.

 (2)  Examine the aerodynamic smoother (sealant) for these conditions:
 (a)  
Erosion of the smoother.

 (b)  
Areas without the smoother.

 (c)  
Areas without an overlap of the smoother on the glass.

 (d)  
Smoother that does not bond to the glass.


 NOTE: Use a pencil which is not sharp to find the strength of
____ the bond. Lightly push the wood end of the pencil on the sealant surface in the direction away from the windshield. Do not apply sufficient force to go through the surface of the sealant or to break a good bond. If the sealant is loose, a very small force will show a clearance between the glass and the sealant.

 (3)  Repair the aerodynamic smoother if you find any of the above conditions (AMM 56-11-00/801).

 CAUTION: DO NOT TIGHTEN THE NUTS TO MORE THAN THE SPECIFIED TORQUE

 (4)  Make sure that the window fasteners are not loose.

 WINDOW NO. 1 - APPROVED REPAIRS

 1.  General
_______
 A.  The spacer installed with the window assembly will crush the fairing compound on the structure around the end of the spacer. Do not repair the compound on subsequent window installations.
 B.  When the fairing compound is broken or there are chips, cracks, or damage, you must repair it before you install the window.
 NOTE: It is not necessary to repair the fairing compound in the area
____
 that touches the end of the spacer.

 C.  You can repair a large part of the fairing compound surface. To do this, the installed fairing compound must be a flat plane within 0.00 |0.03 inch around the edge of the window. You can use a faceplate to make a flat plane. The surface of the faceplate must be the same as that of the replacement window. You will use a clamp or the bolts to install it. To repair very small areas, you must make the compound as smooth as possible with a hand tool.

 2.  Fairing Compound - Approved Repairs

 (1)  You can use different parts of this task to repair all the window frame or only part of it.

Plastic spatula or Semco Model 250 Sealant Gun

Teflon pressure sensitive tape, or Ivory soap and a soft bristle brush

 (3)  
Mold faceplate (for large repairs)

B00184 Solvent - BMS 11-7

 (2)  
G00034 Cheesecloth - New, clean, dry, lint free, oil free

 (3)  
B00083 Solvent - Aliphatic Naphtha, TT-N-95A, Type II

 (4)  
A00000 Fairing Compound - EC-3587-1/4 or EC-3587-1 (Ref 20-30-11)

 D.  Prepare the Window Frame and the Fairing Compound for the Repair.
 NOTE: Use the prepare procedure if the repair area is sufficiently large
____ to use a faceplate to make the compound in the necessary shape. You can repair a small area with a hand tool. On small areas, it is less necessary to make sure the new compound is fully hard before you install the window.
