Replace the outer window pane if delaminations and chips are larger than these limits (Ref 56-21-00/401):
NOTE: Delaminations in the outer window pane which are not at
____
the edges are usually with chips.
1) The maximum permitted chip depth is 0.05 inch 2) The maximum dimension of a delamination is 0.40-inch diameter 3) The minimum distance between delaminations is two times the maximum diameter of the delamination.

(4) Examine the windows for scratches.
NOTE: You can apply wax to the small scratches in the outer surface
____ of the outer window pane and the inner surface of the middle pane. The wax can increase visibility .
You can remove the scratches from the surface of the window panes (Ref 56-21-00/801).
S 216-009-B00
(5) Examine the windows for concavity:
NOTE: Concavity is not a cause to replace the window unless the
____ window has other damages which make it necessary to replace the window.
The specified clearance between the two panes is 0.27 inch.
(a) Put a straightedge along the width of the outboard surface of the outer window pane and look for concavity.
NOTE: If there is a clearance between the straightedge and
____ the center of the pane, the window is not flat and has a concavity. If fog appears on the windows regularly, the concavity is constant.
(b) Examine the seals for a leak into the window between the outer and the middle pane. 1) These are signs of a seal with a leak:
a) A window with fog b) Stains on the outer side in the area of the seal, or on the inner side near the vent hole in the middle pane. c) Seals which are moved. 2) Replace all seals which have a leak (Ref 56-21-00/401).

(6) Examine the window for distortion:
(a) Examine the window for a surface contour that is not smooth or has a distortion.
NOTE: The exposure to high temperature from a heat source,
____ such as a photo flood lamp, can cause a distortion.

(b) Dry the window:
1) You can dry a window to get it close to its initial contour.
NOTE: To dry a window, remove it and keep it in room
____ temperature air. The time it will take to dry the window will change because of local humidity and how badly the window is deformed.
Window panes usually do not go fully to their initial contour.
(c) Replace a window which has a distortion or a thickness that changes (Ref 56-21-00/401).
S 216-015-B00
(7) Examine the windows for creep deformation:
NOTE: Creep deformation is damage to the window from the window
____
clip against the edge of the pane (Fig. 601).
(a)
Creep deformation in the window is permitted if it satisfies these conditions: 1) The window does not have other surface damages. 2) The window has other small damages on the surface or edge
which you cannot feel with your fingernail.
(b)
If the window has other surface damages but does not have a Vee notch crack, you can repair the window (Ref 56-21-00/801).
(c)
If the window has other surface damages with a Vee notch crack less than 0.05 inch from the edge of the window, you can repair the window (Ref 56-21-00/801).
